I bought this a month ago(august 2012) 1986 mr2 mk1b 74000 full history ,3 owners from new (one for 18years) leather ,in great condition but still lots to do

Image

and since buying it Ive changed the :

the plugs, rotor arm, dizzy cap and replaced the dizzy due to an internal oil leak gonna rebuild the original dizzy then timed the engine Ive bought a tempory
dizzy off ebay for the time being but that also has a leak ! lol

took off the cam covers and gave them a good refurb also checked the valve clearances which were ok and renewed the gaskets which were leaking ImageImageImage

I changed the clutch master cylinder which was leaking badly and was a complete bitch to bleed

I changed the oil ,oil filter ,air filter ,cleaned out the throttle body and fitted a new throttle bracket

lots more to do ,gonna attempt to change the timing belt next

Ay up, Chris!

That's well bought, Sir, and I love the cam covers! More, please!
If in doubt, give it a clout!

If that don't work, fetch a bigger 'ammer!

this rust spot was caused by the leaking clutch master cylinder

I had a go of my sisters once owned MR2,and I loved it. Sitting position just right, and height of the gear lever just bang on. And 120bhp shifting 900kg's made it light work. I hope your MR2 doesn't have as much rot as my sisters

no its really good on the body work front (hopefully) Its my third mr2 ,my first was brilliant, so much fun and not that old then back in 1997 which I
sold to a mate but it was still pretty rotten at just 10years old ,

my 2nd mr2 was cheap and a complete rot box ,I was over optimistic how hard it would be to restore, then the engine blew and i found
the engine mounts ,hubs etc were all cold welded together ,and the bumper bars ,sills ,wheel archs ,and most of
the floor had disintegrated ,It broke my heart to scrap it as it had very low miles ,believe you me these cars bloody rot

this one is different ,because its had alot less owners(3 with one for 18years) ,garaged,74kmiles ,and waxoyled everywhere and I mean everwhere
its been maintained regardless of cost then the last owner who owned it for 5 years just parked it in his garage and hardly used it doing about
1000miles in 5 years ,so hopefully Ive got a good one ,but I'm not satisfied with just a good one I want one thats mint ;-) and totally standard

I'm gonna get the engine ,gearbox ,suspension and brakes all good then go for a full respray next year there is bodywork to be done as being garaged all its lifes its got dents and bumps everywhere ,the interior is full leather and in great condition and everything else inside is in great condition ,plus the tbar actually
doesnt leak !

It's a real shame. I suppose it's because they weren't made for UK weather conditions.
Would you want a supercharged version?
