Does UK Jeeper know anything about axle end float.

The axle is limited slip differential which has a Mopar additive in the oil.

Dana 44 axle.

Is this a c clip axle and how much end float on the half shafts is normal

If it's a D44 it's not a C Clip. That was only inflicted on the D35's. But is this on your XJ? They have D35's.

As far as free play, you mean in and out or turning? About a 1/4" on in and out, and about an inch or so on turning.
