"cheap" aston

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

"cheap" aston

Anybody fancy a DBS for £40k?

You may need another 40 (or 140 knowing aston martin parts prices) to make it road worthy.
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

If you would like the space back I have a DB7 shaped space in my garage. I'll even wave the collection charge ;)

A favourite of James Bond??? IIRC, it was only in OHMSS (with George Lazenby, who only played Bond once), where the DB5 and AMV8 were in more (the V8 with Mr Dalton). I can't remember them being made for very long either - 1970ish to 1973 or so (when the AMv8 wasintroduced - after AML was sold by David Brown - and AMl stopped using the "DB" in the model name). I'd suspect Mr Bond would have bad memories on the DBS - his wife died in one!

Mind you, Lord Brett Sinclair seemed to like his before he became the Bond who never drove an Aston!

COYS managing partner Chris Routledge, said: "This is an important part of Aston Martin's history.

"It has been sitting in a barn since 1980 and now needs to be brought back to its former glory.

"The windows are broken, the interior trim is missing and its rusty, but it's all there.
How the hell can the idiot at the auction house state 'but its all there' when in the previous breath he has stated that the windows are broken and interior trim is missing !! What a prat

I bet you would ;) We don't need the space actually, it's sitting there now almost un-noticed. I would be tempted to make an offer but I know even if the guy accepts what I offered, it needs a LOT of work and even then will still be not a great example.

You would need to offer an amount which meant you wouldn't be out of pocket taking everything in to account.
I have £14.90 in change in the fruit bowl right now, do you think he would accept that?

Hahaha!!! You're more hard ball than even myself! I was going to offer him £2k tops but came to the conclusion he'd never accept it.

I have people knocking on my door offering silly money for the range rover so you get used to low offers after a while.

In the classic cars spotted thread there is a TVR Chimera which I offered a grand for a few years ago. It has been sitting and sitting, last time I saw it squirrels had nested inside and it was ruined :( the problem with cars that sit is inevitably they are going to end up as parts donors so prices have to reflect that. If the DB7 needs engine work, a replacement engine is almost certainly going to cost more than the car is worth therefore it should be free ;)

Agreed!! He'd most likely argue that it has value even for parts though. It needs a headgasket which is about £1500 in parts alone. We didn't even get to look at pricing new disks, pads, possibly calipers and also shock absorbers. It would certainly need new tyres now too.
