I bought some tools from Halfords on the weekend, and during my transaction the guy at the till got distracted as he was multitasking. So at the end before I put stuff into my bag I said "You've tagged all that haven't you?" and he said yes, so I stuck it all in my bag and left. I didn't get home until that evening and when I did I looked at the reciept and discovered I hadn't been charged for for the set of screwdrivers I bought.
So in work this morning I told a few people I am going back tonight to tell them of their error and pay for them, and most were shocked saying "it's only £10, its their mistake, theyre a big company, just keep them etc" and its almost made me think I shouldnt bother, but then i think at the end of the day its Karma and if I lost my wallet or something I'd like whoever found it to be honest.
I'll go to the store tonight, but just wondering if you guys agreed with me or the people at work?

Personally, i respect your honesty. Go back and let them know. They'll appreciate it too. Stuff your co-workers, be true to yourself and your belief. Speak to the store manager, quietly.
On a side note, my kid works at Halfords. I'm picturing the bollocking he'd get if it came to light that he allowed goods to walk out the door never to be seen again.

Id go along with the honesty policy
whilst its always nice to have something for nothing, I believe that being honest and truthful are great traits to have, yes, its only £10 but its the principal I suppose.
Karma is a great thing..

I agree, be truthful, sometimes the manager says you can keep them for nothing anyway and your conscience is clear, even if you have to pay for them your honesty will be appreciated.

Agree with all of the above, your workmates should be ashamed of themselves.
However, you'd be right in giving Halfords a bit of a hard time, because due to their mistake you've had to spend precious time and money in going back to the shop. It's a point I'd make to them if I were you, at any rate.

Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.

On the subject of tool quality rather than cost, I managed to snap 2 Halfords straight screwdrivers while trying to undo a (fairly rusty) screw at the weekend. After going and rummaging I found a bag of ancient screwdrivers I purchased from a market at some point last year, job done.
I love new tools but even the best ones don't seem to be up to the task of the 30 year old stuff that you find for sale at 50p in jumble / car boot sales.
P.S. a clear conscience has to be worth £10.

Those Lidl tools are a lot better than you'd think- they're pretty good quality and an absolute steal for the price.
Regarding Halfords, if I'm in there I'm sorely tempted to shout at the punters "step away from the batteries, they're half that price anywhere else!" and they are greedy and overpriced and in general rely on the ignorance of their customers in order to make a profit. By all means take them back but I bet they don't even know they're down a set- if they'd been scanned through they'd have come up on the screen and they only charge you for what the screen says is there, so i doubt that anyone will know what happened, nobody will be in trouble, so if you do take 'em back make sure you go to the same assistant who failed to spot them, or just go in with them, and put 'em through the till like you just picked them up, pay, leave, without saying a word...........

As with the others, I'd go back and tell them. Otherwise, you'd be no different from - by way of a random example - the sort of person who tries to get away with rebuilding a tax-free car into a much later shell that in no way qualifies for few enough points to allow the identity to remain tax-free.
The point being that you're either an honest man or you're not, but we don't get to choose which laws we obey and which we dismiss out of hand. With the possible exceptions of screwing the DVLA as above, doing 137mph on an empty Highland B road in the middle of the night when there's nobody else out, refusing to separate your blue bin contents into categories based on construction material and not forgetting owning a Range Rover and never getting it muddy, the last there being a hanging offence among the agricultural community.
Rick's bang on as per; Impress upon Halfords just how damned inconvenient it is for you to make a return trip - do this in a good humoured and jovial way and you're quids in - and hope that they'll acknowledge your integrity by letting you have a free voucher or something.

I agree , their Parkside power tools might as well be made by Bosch, pehaps they are.. Their Die grinder/dremmel type tool was crap though, and 9" angle grinder had waaayyy more backlash than Terry's RR diff ..powerful but too noisey for me,.I gave it away . The 5" Parkside grinders are great
