Midget fuel pump prime

#1 Post by mollymidget »

Hi Just installed refurbed fuel tank and new pump on the Midget, but cant get any fuel through to carbs, pump is running ok with outlet at top and inlet at bottom as instructed on new SU pump, any ideas would be appreciated on how to prime, I have sealed the tank inside wandering if it could of sealed over the fuel outlet hole :?

I completely drained the tank on my Midget when I restored it, and didn't have to prime the pump.

Try blowing (or sucking, if you're brave) on the fuel feed pipe from the tank before it gets to the pump and you'll soon see if it's blocked. I'd recommend an additional long length of clean tube temporarily plumbed in though, to keep your mouth tolerably clean!

SU pumps are self priming - my money is on a blockage or a crimped piece of pipe

All sorted thanks for advice, it turned out to be a blocked pickup pipe in the tank, cleaned out refitted, fuel now flowing to carbs :D
