A couple for tractorman & maybe others ?

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

A couple for tractorman & maybe others ?

#1 Post by Grumpy Northener »

I was out surveying the floods on the River Tone / Somerset levels yesterday in advance of future works that we shall be taking to elevate the situation and just about every second property had something on wheels shoved into a barn or out in the open - my camera phone is not brilliant at focusing but here we go

Smug mode on

The first picture takes me back a few years - I used MF 35 + loaders on three or four farms and the IH 434 on a couple. I haven't worked a Ford digger, though a local contractor had one when he started out in the mid 70's.

The eagle-eyed will spot the "extra" back wheel in the shed. It is attached to the little tractor, which has been evicted from the garage at long last! Although the shed is fairly weatherproof now, I need to sort some "doors": probably some plastic tarpaulins modified to fit the openings as a decent door would pull the stanchions down! There are still some details to finish (fascias and sealing between the clerestory and roof being the main ones), but at least I will be able to do the Landy before too long!

Smug mode off

OTOH, the garage is full of wood and woodworking machinery at the moment - I'm updating the 30-year old kitchen and it will cost me a fortune: I've spent £1100 already!! There isn't much more to buy for the kitchen - paint, some pipe fittings and some more timber, I'm just lacking enthusiasm at the moment

Well spotted - I didn't even notice the tractor in a shed. However, when I zoomed in, it is a Major. I thought it was a Super Major for a minute, but the lights are on the side of the nose, where the Super's are in the grilles.

Smug mode is most certainly off at the moment, I went to see a friend (who was out) in the car and now the car is at the side of the road waiting for the garage to tow it "in" as the engine is making a hell of a knock and the oil pressure warning (not a light - just a message "low oil stop engine" for a few seconds) came up. Yet another VW with engine problems (plenty of oil): so much for "If only everything was reliable as a VW"! It has only done 117K miles!!
