Side indicator lamp identification

I wondered if anyone here could indenting something for me? I have a side indicator lamp that I use for an oil pressure light on a racing MGB. The lens has broken and I would like to replace. While I could replace with any old light, I would like to replace for exactly the same for a silly reason.

Here is a picture:

One of the screw holes has broken and the sides have melted with too bright a bulb.

I'm guessing '80s BL product and maybe Lucas. I thought Jaguar, but I think these were slightly different. I've seen loads that are similar, but none with the two screw holes in the lens and these being right on the side. Unlike all other Lucas lamp lenses I've come across this has no identifying marks. No serial number, no nothing.

The silly reason? I was once at the Williams F1 museum and saw that one of the Alan Jones cars had this oil warning light mounted on the dash in the same way.

looks like the sort of generic side repeater lamp that was fitted aftermarket to the likes of Mk1 escorts and numerous BL tin

I fear it is a generic one from that era which will make it hard to find.

I tried a lot of ebay listings. I do realise I am being pedantic!

Standard fits for that include Maxis, pre Maxi 2 which had round, Italian-style repeaters:

I'm toiling to see how the fact that it's a generic part, hence more - rather than less - plentiful, would make it harder to find. Just search eBay by Lucas' own part number rather than make and/or model. Simple as that.

Edited: Oops, omitted that number! What am I like eh? It's an LMP903 or LMP903A, the only difference between that two is in the distance between the screw holes, outer shape is a match.

Not sure about the Maxi John, I had the same repeaters on my old Wolseley Hornet and I bought them at a local car accessory shop. I'm not 100% sure, but they may have been Ring ones. IIRC, my 1972 Maxi repeaters (and Father's 72/3) only had a single screw and a nook at the opposite end, though I wouldn't be surprised if they changed them before the "1 1/2" came out! Something in the back of my mind says the Maxi ones had a bayonet-fitting for the bulb.

L734 has the single screw with a hook under at the other end so they're not Maxi ones, in spite of what the seller thinks**. I remember my Maxi, an early 1 1/2 with the ability to make the bed with the doors shut, Nylon in place of vented plastic seat facings and twin stalks among other newfangled stuff, having a screw at either end because when the window winder fell off the driver's door one day, one screw was pinched from the o/s repeater to use - along with a Vesta as an improvised Rawlplug - to keep the window winder attached while I eventually got round to finding the correct, machine screw for that winder. Only I never did and although I haven't visited EKM in some years, that bodge is in all likelihood still there.


**-Unless, as is entirely possible with BL stuff, the lens shape was constant but the attachment arrangements changed from one car to the next, depending upon what was available?

Either way, the O/P needs the one with two screw holes so it's a 903 or 903A, whichever has the holes right out at the ends.

I have no doubts the later ones had two screws - I'm pretty sure I remember one or two! However, I have found a picture of Father's ('L' reg) Maxi, with our cat - who was a car fanatic:



The large picture shows the rusty screw at the front and the clip at the back.

As an aside - sort of - here's one of My Maxi somewhere around October 1976. I can't remember if Mother bought the Marina in September or November, but there it is fresh from the garage! Unfortunately, you can't see the repeaters very clearly! I've just noticed that my parents were sitting in the Marina when the picture was taken!!



The Maxi had a 1750 engine fitted in 1981 and was repainted (with a brush) Tweed Grey over Black a year or two later - it looked a heck of a lot better than it sounds! I still reckon it was a more versatile hatchback than Golfs are - though not without one or two faults!

I spotted something similar to your broken indicator light at THE RANGE diy store in Hartlepool
at the beginning of December. Unfortunately it's not listed on their website,nor is a boat load
of other stuff they had in their automotive section at that store http://www.therange.co.uk/

I can't drive myself at the moment and I will taken shopping later in the week so IF I'm out
and get to that store I will see if they still have them, they were something like a couple of quid!

Don't the Lucas jobbies have the screws fitting in from the top, rather than the above one being moulded around the screw hole? As in
