Short term Jag project

Bought to sell on but it's very tempting to keep it !! 1978 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 auto - 2 owners & warrented 20,000 miles from new - matching numbers & all original - needs some minor fettling on the cosmetics but other than that wants for nothing and is a fantastic drive - just got to find the time to sort it now

In that picture it doesn't even look like it needs a clean to get it ready for sale. What a gorgeous colour too, I don't recall seeing one in this hue before.

SII Jags with European bumpers are the best looking of them all. I need to source a set for my XJ12C on my next visit to the UK.

I am going to have eat my words on that one - I spent a couple of hours moving boxes in the garage from the house move to make room for the Jag then went outside and started it - windscreen was a bit misted up so I put the fan / air con on and the compressor pump clutch rattled away like a good one - Bugger - I don't think a tap with the hammer and squirt of WD 40 corrects this so unless any one knows better it will have to be a new one - from a quick trawl it looks like I am just better buying a recon pump as a complete unit - best price so far is £200 but then it needs fitting & re-gassing - I might as well get the pump and then run it to the local garage who can de-gas / fit the pump / re-gas & do the MOT all in one go - I could fit the pump myself but I am not one for adding to pollution problems by just letting go of the refrigerant (I read its illegal to do so anyway)

The ones on mine are decent but spoil the cars overall appearance and will need rechroming - which is on the list of jobs to sort - I did look into new / exchange ones but the classic Jaguar parts dealers talk in telephone numbers - circa £3k + for a complete set !!!! I know a good chromer who is sensible with the money so that's the route I will go down

You have great taste in cars GN - I love your Jowetts and I'm a big Jag fan. I bet whoever gets your XJ6 will be getting a beauty by the time you've finished with it. I couldn't do what you're doing though - I'd never be able to let it go!

Isn't it just an a6 compressor? If so, it went into a million different cars. I can usually find the for under $130 (US) rebuilt.
