"UNSPECIFIED GROUP 1 MODIFIED VEHICLE"????

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

"UNSPECIFIED GROUP 1 MODIFIED VEHICLE"????

#1 Post by JPB »

Excuse the capitalisation, it's just copied and pasted directly from Askmid.
I just used askmid to check that something I added recently to my key policy has in fact been added to the database by the insurer and it's coming up green BUT instead of the make and the model, they now say the above about it. Checking the others and it's the same story, does anyone have any idea how this comes about?
The policy in question was renewed in July of this year, but the make and model details of the vehicles were all listed at that time. Is this something to do with the fact that it's a policy which lasts for longer than the usual period of just one year? But then it was before and renewal wasn't the factor that triggered these changes in any case.
1) Has anyone else found the same thing with a longer term key policy, or indeed with a car(s)-only, one year policy?
2) Should I be concerned about this when the actual certificate contains the correct details for every vehicle that the policy covers and the correct figure in each case where a vehicle on there is insured for a fixed value as well as correct values in the fields of contents and buildings insurance for the properties that are covered?

Maybe I'm easily confused? Please tell me it's not just me. :?

I wonder what it would say about the neon :?
I do know it is showing as insured as I did the basic free test.
http://ownvehicle.askmid.com/askmid.aspx
YES P474XTN IS showing as insured on the Motor Insurance Database today.
The details on the MID are:
Vehicle Make/Model: CHRYSLERNEON LX AUTO
And that's all it stated!
I'm Diabetic,& disabled BUT!! NOT DEAD YET!!

It lists my RR correctly despite the bigger engine and LPG.
How modified is your car?
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

Terry, none of the vehicles on the policy is modified, yet all are shown on MID using the phrase that has me puzzled. I could make sense of it if this actually referred to something that is modified yet the vehicles on the policy are all correctly insured and their details spelt out correctly on the certificate.

I own one vehicle that had to be insured on its own policy but that - a "motor tricycle" - comes up under its correct details when I look it up on the MID.

No, Rich, I haven't been buying anything recently, :( interesting or otherwise, but now I'm wondering whether I could slip something wild and wacky onto the policy without their noticing. ;)

If you look the car up on the DVLA (or AA's vehicle checker, ebay, etc) does it show up correctly?
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

Yes, in every case. I checked all of the registration numbers that appear on that policy and every one comes up with that strange phrase. I've spent what seemed like several hours ringing the various departments of the insurance company and all they've been able to tell me is that I'm insured legally as stated on the actual paper certificate that lists the vehicles & buildings and that I worry too much! (Not their exact words but that was what they meant). :|

I wonder if it's because the policy is a multi car affair and the computer sees "Reliant, Triumph, 750cc,1800cc, 1972 1978" (or whatever) from several cars but can only handle one car, so thinks the cars are a single modified vehicle?

There again, the Landy comes up correctly on the first page. I'd check the tractors, which are on the same policy, but I can't see the reg numbers from my window!

That's far too sensible and logical! If this situation had come about right back when I first took out this policy, then I too would have been happy to accept the type of policy as the reason, however this strange phenomenon only began happening randomly, at some time between my adding the most recent item to the list of insured things and checking a few days ago, out of curiousity, to see whether the newest modern car had its correct details on there.

A pal of mine uses the same insurer for his vehicles and premises so it occurred to me that he may see the same phrase, were he to look any of his registration numbers up on Ask MID so I just gave him a bell and guess what.... Yep, you guessed it; every one of the cars and commercials on his key policy is listed with its correct, individual details on the MID.
I also asked the village Polis for her take on this when I met her at the beach this morning, exercising her partner and their greyhounds. Her first question was whether the details on the paper certificate showed each vehicle and identified them correctly, which they are but all that demonstrates is that the insurance company are fond of paperwork since this type of policy often comes without specific details on it as it's similar to a trader's policy where some vehicles might only be on there for a short time. Yvonne the plod thought that possibly, the insurance company has in some way streamlined its way of dealing with any policy that covers multiple items and that - come renewal time next year - my paper certificate might not still list all of the individual details.

The main thing is that, as far as our fine, upstanding, greyhound enthusiast law enforcement woman is concerned, I'm all legally insured and she's even offered to prove the point by burning some cars for me. I hope she was kidding. ;)
