I'm currently building a new loom for my camper and looking into security options that can be inter linked while I'm at it.

Im adding a Cat1 alarm with optional tilt sensor and also a fuel stop solenoid close to the tank which will be wired into the alarm immobiliser circuit plus I'm thinking a hidden switch also on this for extra security.

Anyway,

I've also been looking at gps trackers and wondered if they are any good and if they actually work, they range from cheap to expensive.

Anyone any experiences of them?

I'm going to put a main battery isolator in also for security and safety,

Anyone have any other idea's, hints, tips etc that work?

I've seen these pedal locks which look simple enough to make with just an abloy pad lock but there rather heavy and clumsy looking and I don't really want it kicking around the van and I doubt I'd be bothered ever using it.

They will supply one to you for a DIY install, about the size of a cigarette packet. I've installed half a dozen of them in to the in-law's lorries and they are a doddle.
However, the best security you can get is a locked, alarmed garage.

It's in a locked alarmed garage behind a set of locked gates with usually a car parked in front.....

Only thing is it's not that interesting camping in a locked garage

I had a peugeot 106 Rallye and I fitted a Motorsport kill switch that worked a treat,if a little unsightly,but hidden away may work.

That's similar to what I'll be putting in, I'm lucky that where I work we use a lot of stuff like this



Battery isolator like this will be going in the engine bay off the main battery, I'm lucky with the camper as it's going to have a second leisure battery similar to a caravan which the radio etc will run off anyway. So no need to put links in for radio memory.

I think I would place the cutout switch out of the way,away from the battery where only you know it's location!!!

Preventing a vehicle being taken is pretty difficult if someone is determined enough. All they need is one of those lorries the council use for removing clamped cars.
You can make it very difficult for the opportunist, if you are isolating the main battery, does your camper have one of those handy switches that bridges the main and aux? A proper alarm and immobiliser is a good start. Concentrating on how to get it back once it has been "borrowed" is not expensive but does require a subscription. It will probably save you an amount on your insurance too so worth looking in to.

Well as the comment above, SKYTAG got one fitted a few never in the same place on the cars. Police wheel clamp, dislok, garage, alarmed.
Where do you stop money wise out of sight in a garage if you can. However remember to make your door Security tight as well.
I have a Police Wheel Clamp spare make Lionweld with braces for all sizes of wheel if someone is after one?

We have just bought a new caravan (sorry !!) that comes with a Phantom Tracker linked to the alarm with 12 months free subscription. When I contacted the Caravan Club about my insurance, I was amazed to get a refund of almost 25% of my premium for a van that's worth more than double the one we just sold. In view of the increased value, I was expecting to pay more although the refund wasn't all tracker related as the van also had an Aklo wheel lock.
