Stag steering wheel adjustment

#1 Post by john-saab »

My friend is looking to buy a 1974 Triumph Stag. He's a tall chap at 6ft 7in and we went to view a car last week but he struggled to sit it the car without the top of his thighs touching the steering wheel..even with the seat fully back. I know that there is an "up and down" adjustment on the steering column but have read that there is a way of adjusting the steering wheel backwards and forwards. Does anyone know how this adjustment is done and (long shot) is there a Stag owner near Worthing, West Sussex who would let Robert try out the seating position in a car with a working seat? Cheers.

John, the adjustment on the Stag is the same arrangement as found in the Dolomites, the FWD cars and the 2000/2500, which have a plastic wingnut just under the dash to the right of the column. Slacken that off and the column can then be pulled outwards/pushed inwards as well as being raised or lowered.
With height-adjustable seat bases as well as the column, pretty much anyone should be able to get comfy in any of these cars.
