Gearbox resto DVD?

#1 Post by majcd213 »

Hi- there are several DVDs on the market covering engine rebuilds- I have the A series pushrod engine DVD and its very useful. However I can't find any that cover how to restore a gearbox or help to demystify the pile of cogs that I know will fall out when I start dismantling! I am going to try and rebuild the Morris Minor gearbox 1098 engine version- seem to be loads of bits available and its relatively cheap. In fact its a toss up as to whether its cheaper to do this myself or get a recon but I do want to know whats inside and will keep the recon as a fall back in case it all goes t*** up. Has anyone come across any DVDs or videos that might help?
Cheers
Mike

Don't know of a video, but I've done one of these and the Haynes manual was helpful. However the biggest single help was the exploded parts diagram - easy to come by for the Minor, let me know if you need help getting a copy, I have the whole thing electronically, although it's for a Midget the gearbox is the same. I also have the original BMC workshop manual for a Minor in both hard copy and electronic - with a combination of these resources you'll have no problem.

Cheers :D

Thanks for that- I have the manual- although I'd like the diagram if you have it as a pdf- (majcd213 at aol.com). Also I see you are in surrey (I'm in Guildford) so maybe I could pop and collect? Appreciate a chat about things too. Midget (probably sprite?) was going to be my next acquisition as so much is like my A40. Anyway thanks for the encouragement.

No problems Mike - .pdf diagrams that cover the gearbox have been sent to that e-mail address, I'm sure you'll be fine with that. And yes, do pop over if you want to chat about Minors and Midgets over a brew!

Note also, this site:

http://www.morrisminorspareparts.co.uk/

also shows all the spare parts in the form of exploded diagrams, and is of course specific to the Morris Minor, in case there are any minor (sic) differences.... Not as easy to read as the .pdf though.
