Re: Early Javelin Restoration
Not posted for a couple of weeks as I was a main player in the staging of our annual Jowett international rally in Basingstoke (pics to follow soon) so what's been happening in the meantime ? Well I managed to locate a scrap trolley out of a skip which provided wheels & stub axles for a body shell trolley so I set about fabricating a couple of axles - front one will be steering

Re: Early Javelin Restoration
This now gives the ability to move the shell around the workshop once all the welding is complete and the body shell comes off the chassis tilter

It also means that the project can attend our national rally Where it provided the topic of many conversations with Javelin owners / restorers alike

Re: Early Javelin Restoration
The rear shocker mountings were all but hanging off - this is the nearside one Mounting removed completely along with a poor repair to the rear seat upstand which was cut out and refabricated

Re: Early Javelin Restoration
I managed to clean the old mounting up and once I had fabricated a new back plate the mounting was rewelded into place along with new strengthening webs And here is the latest addition to the workshop organisation department - a new tool trolley - well used but cost nothing (it's actually a supermarket dairy trolley) keeps everything to hand and saves having to rack it all on shelves at the other end of the workshop.

Ha! I like that idea - my son works at Tesco and drives a 1979 Mini - I'll have to see if he can tow one home for me as it won't fit in the bootGrumpy Northener wrote: And here is the latest addition to the workshop organisation department - a new tool trolley - well used but cost nothing (it's actually a supermarket dairy trolley) keeps everything to hand and saves having to rack it all on shelves at the other end of the workshop.
We already have the base of one of their large 'cages' used for stock delivery - a lorry crushed most of the superstructure and so we rescued the base and castors - very handy for resting his Mini engine on and moving it around the garage.

Re: Early Javelin Restoration
A suspect area was noticed adjacent to the shocker mounting point - this is a double skinned panel and sure enough when tapped with the hammer - through it went Carefully cut back to sound metal with the air saw Inner side complete

Next on the list was to sort the O/S/R inner wing section around the shroud area to which the rear outer wing is bolted Not has bad as the nearside Another one off the list

Re: Early Javelin Restoration
I rotated the car on the tilter to access the offside shocker mounting Again all but hanging off - look carefully and you can see cracks in the welds all around the mounting areas Mounting removed No end of bodged welding attached to the mounting
