breakdown truck

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

it runs on an antiquated engine
Wrong - mine had a nice Perkins Prima 2 litre diesel in it - quite effective and very fuel efficient, a bit noisy but nowhere near as bad as the Transit diesel or that pre historic thing that was in the Mercedes 307D series
1937 Jowett 8 - Project - in less pieces than the Jupiter
1943 Jowett Stationary Engine
1952 Jowett Jupiter - In lots of peices http://Jowett.org/
1952 Jowett Javelin - Largely original
1973 Rover P6 V8 - Original / 22,000 miles

You might very well have had a Perkins engine, later they plonked V8's in them, police and ambulance crews loved that, later still Peugeot engines went in them too, although that might have been in the days when the van was called a Pilot, but from launch they had the 1622cc engine or you could have the 1798cc Marina lump. That 1622cc unit went back to the Austin Devon days.
But if you like Sherpas, fine, not for me to argue.

I do and just to add the icing on the cake the old man had a J4 for some time and given keys to that has a teenager was a whole load of fun in the summer, T shirt & a pair of shorts, sliding doors back so no requirement for air con - looked far cooler than the scabby donkey's on the wheels that the rest of the kids were driving about in - plus I could get a mattress in the back of the J4

I need a bucket! Why oh why would anyone destroy the concours potential of Toyota's finest RWD, mid engined mobile knocking shop that way? It's akin to all of these yellow vans that are out there, not Regal Supervan 3s but modern vans, painted in Trotter livery and only really resembling the original in the wheel count. Send the creator of that Previa (or whichever one of its endless variations that is, I found the picture too distressing so couldn't take in the words..) to the nearest public gibbet and show him the way to the top step!
Kill the thing now, but first dibs on its fridge, which drops straight into the same place in my bB's dashboard.
:scared:

So then I thought great, Rich has given us a nicely turned out Sooty Van, so I read that description and here the seller is implying that it's only on sale to convicted perverts..

which to anyone with time and a bit of "nonce" with a brush or spray gun will do fine as I still have half a tin of green paint too!
Oh, and @GHT: That Sherpa left the factory with the alloy headed OHC 1700cc engine that it has in the listing, it has never been fitted with a B series, only the earliest Sherpas had these.

Make up your mind John, which is it? Did the Sherpa have, or have not, the 1622cc engine?

You know, despite being almost prehistoric, the old MG really is something of a magnet.

That one didn't, no. Very early ones did. Not that the choice of engine would affect my lust for the Sherpa, they're all totally gorgeous to look at, comfortable to ride in and not as bad as some folk say they are to drive.. Once you get used to the handling on these 1920s trap springs at both ends, one of many ways in which a Sherpa resembles a classic 1920s Bentley, so buy the Sherpa, you can't live in a Bentley.
;)
There were at least four times as many Rebels in the hands of kitten register members at the last count than the current keeper of the beige 700 suggests in the ad, but many still live in Scotland which would explain the seller of that one guessing that only eleven are still in use, HML's figures include DVA stats since last year (N.Ireland), but the DVLA's figures are only for England and Wales, Scottish data protection legislation prevents such sensitive information being made available to sites such as HML.
The beige car looks just as good from a few yards away as it does in the old photos used in the ad. Mind you, it is a year since I saw it so maybe the chassis isn't still caked in quarter of an inch of that stuff that I used to stick the new felt to my hut roof recently.
