Question on a modern

Has anyone worked on or owned Toyota Carina E Turbo D's. I have one and its going well as a daily, while I procrastinate on my Rover P6 rolling resto. Anyhow there is an oil leak at the back of the engine. Above the sump line there is two bolts. Both are covered in oil and this is where the leak is coming from. One of the bolts is further out and a metal pipe is terminating behind this. The haynes manual thoughtfully ignores the diesel model, thanks Haynes big help . I showed it to my usual man and he thinks theres a brass washer which may need replacing. I haven't contacted the Dealer yet about the part. Anyone know what this pipe is/does.

No idea about the Carina engine, but Triumphs use a copper washer in the gearbox / bellhousing assembly which if worn or omitted leads to oil leaks; might be the same sort of thing?

I rang the dealer and they told me there's two washers/gaskets on this part. I ordered them all €2 worth However....I think they are not the correct parts as the fitting didn't look as big as what they gave me Will have to look again tomorrow when I can get it over a pit again.

Have you tried the sites which do downloads for Workshop manuals? Some are free but most charge about £15
I have downloaded several manuals in this way and have been very satisfied - they are usually the official "Dealer manual" for the model and are thus much more comprehensive than the Haynes. The diagrams are also more detailed - hope this is helpful.

Thanks Mitsuru, i checked that website but it didn't cover my car . I found the oil leak and bought a new gasket for it so next time I change the oil I'll put it on.

I have a different question. My radio is driving me mad As my car is a diesel I have to heat it when starting from cold, the radio keeps the stations up to the point of the ignition lights, but the minute I turn the key it loses the plot. however if I start from hot and just turn the key it's fine (mostly) WTF!!! I found a "Radio Setting condenser" for a Toyota Carina E 1.8 16V on Fleabay. I asked the seller where this was located and if my car had this, he just told me it was under the bonnet So I have tried the trick with a 9V rechargeable battery connected to the permanent live wire and all it did was nearly blow up the battery I don't want to buy a 12v battery from Maplin if a simple plug in condenser will do the trick.
Any ideas?

Bump! Well any ideas? I've been thinking of taking a permanent live feed from the ignition circuit and a new earth to boot and see if that works. Ironically I tried a different radio on it and it's the direct opposite it won't keep the stations when turned off by the ignition, but if I save a station when it's on and start the car it keeps the station Help!

Sounds like the alternative radio you tried was from a VW or Audi since their multiplug puts the preset memory feed and the accessory circuit-switched feed on opposite pins relative to almost all other makers' sets.
What value is the capacitor used to store the presets? Chances are I'll have several in a choice of Working Voltage and physical size as well as capacitance.

Yup, you were right. Swapped over the ignition and memory and hey presto the substitute radio is working perfectly and keeping the stations at all times. So I contacted the vendor and my new radio has been returned for repair/replacement and if not a full refund. I really miss it though, I'm back to my sunvisor Bluetooth kit and radio or Cd but no music playing from the iphone, bummer.
