breakdown truck

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Smart arse, I guess it was a way of circumventing Ford's ownership of the Orion name. But I still like the stallion myth.
Rich, you are a sad bunny, drooling over that nondescript, forgettable little eurobox.

Hmm, Dutton were producing their Sierra for a good eleven years before Ford decided that they wanted the name for their then new Cortina replacement. Ford sued Dutton and suddenly, it was OK for the bigger company to claim ownership of the name first used by the smaller.
Point is, when Ford want something it really makes no odds whether someone else has the IP rights, Ford will have it anyway. Ford probably didn't see a low volume, Japanese coupé as much of a threat to [Ford's] less interesting, mass market parts bin stuff or Ford would have sued Mitsubishi and won. What a shower of bullies!

You are right, Ford, like a lot of the big corporations, ride roughshod over anyone and everyone. However, much as they hate it, they never could get rid of the jelly mould tag. At a classic meet last week, I saw some youngsters, mid to late twenties perhaps, clocking an XR4. One of the lads was speaking in some geeky terms about the car's performance/engine/this that or the other. When he finally shut up his mate quipped: "Yeah, but it's still a jelly mould." Cracked me up.

I've only had one Sierra. A mate gave it to me, which should have told me all I needed to know about the car, but on the drive home after we'd pulled it out of the hedge where it had been since 1989, a rear spring snapped forward of the saddle and the resulting massive oversteer almost saw the poor thing end its days in yet another hedge.

I found a piccie on the interwebs that shows one the same colour. Mine ended up being taken away by the council on the very day a potential buyer - I'd changed the rear springs by then - drove a shagged out Renault 5 all the way from Cornwall to view the Sierra. I met the guy at the car park where the car had last been seen and immediately used the nearest phone box (remember them?) to report it stolen. The very nice Police lady told me about the council having it on their list for collection but gave me a FWIN anyway, so at least I got the insurance money before it was too late.

Rich, if that doesn't turn GHT's legs to jelly and cause him to fight back tears of sheer joy, nothing will.
Half a day with the mop and she'll be good as new.
