Nice Skip Find!

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Might put some batteries in it once I've cleaned it up, probably takes 50no 2Ds tho!

Some bloke on the boombox forum got one of these going with an iPad in place of the monochrome CRT, which had the added bonus of allowing better speakers to be fitted as LCDs don't need screened magnets. Apparently, it still sounds awful though.

ghetto blaster

No, that Matsushita monster may be large but it's far too civilized and nowhere near loud enough to be worthy of that title!
This:

is a ghetto blaster! It's crudely built, eats its payload of ten Ds in half an hour of cassette playback but it thumps and could have the ever so polite Japanese Telly box in a fight with one arm tied behind its back and yes, it's real, was photographed a few minutes since and weighs... Well, very little actually since it's cheap German crap and is mostly empty, apart from thae mahoosive woofers and the equally mahoosive output chips.
Unlike Kevin's refined, well built and probably still working telly box, that Watson of mine is a one trick pony, in that all it does is make lots of loud bass and shrill treble that's tuneless but could quite possibly cut glass if focussed, but the big old donkey of a thing always goes down well when the light nights come in and people congregate at the beach to bang the night away to the delicate strains of Ratt, Rammstein or something equally subtle and worshipful.

Did you ever see the first Crocodile Dundee movie? Where Dundee and his girlfriend are about to be mugged by a couple of knife wielding youths? She says: "He's got a knife Mike." And he says: "That's not a knife," pulling out a blade almost as big as a sword he adds: "That's a knife."
Well your pathetic little transistor wotsit ain't no blaster. This is a blaster.
And a good way of upsetting the neighbours too. It can make foundations shake. And it runs on good old valves

It's a pathetic photo, but I can photo it in detail, you might like to hear Doris Day.
