For the middle aged Batman Wanabee

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

For the middle aged Batman Wanabee

#1 Post by Mitsuru »

Developers ordered to fit £15,000 turntables in driveways of new homes
Devices allow car to be driven on to drive and then turn them 180 degrees
Some councils are insisting on them to reduce accidents on busy roads
Several local authorities now refuse planning permission unless the owner can drive front-first directly on to classified or busy roads
Decision is made by councils on a case by case basis

Have one fitted and only be able park one car in the driveway not two side by side, lazy!

And there was me thinking Ford's new Supercar was the Batmobile that middle aged men coveted.

In my day job role I work with a lot of local & national government authorities, institutions etc and I never fail to be amazed by amount of utter crap & nonsense that they insist on spewing forth especially when it comes to comes to spending other peoples money - what next - given the chance they will be insisting that all new houses have a set traffic lights complete with a pedestrian crossing at start of their driveways

It's quite commonplace for councils to insist on cars being able to drive in and out forwards, but that's the first I'd heard of turntables, normally they just insist on sufficient paved turning space.

One of the planning conditions for my new drive was that a car could be turned on the drive itself and not reversed out on to the road. I have had to sacrifice a chunk of garden to a turning area not that I mind too much. It means I can park 2 cars in it then reverse out on to the road anyway ;)

See rule 201:

Be careful of how a court may interpret "if you can"......

Disappointed. I thought it was going to be a Lincoln Futura on eBay.
