Could the preverbial hit the fan again with the banks?

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Could the preverbial hit the fan again with the banks?

#1 Post by Mitsuru »

Yes, I think by now it's pretty much assumed that gold and silver are even more rigged
by than libor and forex. Anything that maintains the illusion of the US dollar supremacy
may be assumed to be rigg(able).

AS well as the the individual EU countries wanting their gold back in their country, they
seem to be letting slide things done by Spain to Gibraltar! Britain is getting harassed by
other countries seeing the UK as weak. The Argentine over the Falklands and try to stop
the airing of top gear.

Thanks to both Conservatives and Labour and Lib dems over the past 30-40 years London
has been made for finance and sucking the rest of the UK and making it over reliant on paper
money.

If the EU starts to go under each country will ask for it's physical gold and silver back, we are
screwed by the bankers again and they are lining their pockets!

To be honest investments, banking, the whole money thing is a minefield and while we all think we know the answers we in fact only scratch the surface.
What I will say is my wife works in banking/finance as a senior manager for a high street bank. She earns (through hard work) a whopping salary with a yearly obscene bonus that is the equivalent to the average persons annual salary and do you know what neither of us are going to apologise for it or offer it back or do a Robin Hood and distribute it to the poor.
I have always been of the opinion that this country ( and other countries) are stuffed with feckless individuals who want a slice for doing nothing and seem to begrudge those that are prepared to go out and get it.

Rant over, I'll go and lay down in a dark room now ;) :)

The only bonus I ever got was when I was allowed to go home at finishing time (that might be 23:00 in hay or harvest seasons!) and the salary wasn't all that great when I was farming - but the work is both physically and mentally challenging. However, I don't think the banks' troubles and bad reputations are something caused at branch level greed. Though I had problems with a local branch when sorting Mother's estate the "financial experts" who managed her investments were horrendous - as if it was their money and not ours (s part of Mother's estate).

There again, reading the middle-class scaremongering newspapers isn't necessarily the best way of finding out what's going on. Mother used to get the Daily Wail and I cancelled that the morning after she died as I was sick of reading the scare stories (and male bovine excrement).

I like classic cars. I'm a member of several forums, own one and help run one. We talk about classic cars. I still like classic cars. Perhaps the fact that I like classic cars could be taken on board by classic car forums?

I like football as well, and surprisingly enough, I'm a member on a couple of football forums. That said, those forums don't talk about classic cars.

I could offer some pointers towards forums with a political slant where this sort of b@llsh!t can be discussed until the cows (or agricultural units of income) come home.

Hi P45, I couldn't agree with you more.

Personally, even in the "off-topic" section I'm sick of these threads about news items that any of us can read either in the papers, on TV or on-line, and you're quite right, there are far more suitable forums for discussing these issues if that's what people really want. Can we keep to more appropriate subjects please, otherwise I'm inclined to delete these types of threads in future.

Rant over! :D

While I agree wholeheartedly with Mr P and Mr Barge it should be clear on the home page under 'off topic' what is or isn't allowed. Another car forum I use specifically states no politics or religion on their 'off topic' section. To arbitrarily delete posts on a whim does not seem fair after all we can all choose to either join in a thread or ignore it. Like the word association thread- in my opinion pointless drivel but others like it so I just ignore it and live and let live.

Fair comment Mr Minx - and that's largely why we haven't culled these so far.

I'll try and get out of bed on the right side tomorrow.... ;)

I reckon that it depends upon the post and with that in mind, I reckon that the way it works here is about as fair as it's possible to get. Being involved with the running of a forum is a singularly thankless task and there are very few who achieve a perfect balance between being an utter twat and being an objective overseer with everyone's best interests at heart.
I really don't get how on earth anyone actually wants to do what Terry and the chaps do here, that must require a unique sort of detachment and at least our lot don't fight among themselves in public forum, which would be genuinely annoying and would eat into the space we use to talk bollocks about old motors.
Every web forum is a community of sorts and as such, why not enjoy the opportunity to communicate within that community about other areas of interest in the way that we do at work, in the pub or over the telephone.

One post - in this very thread - that wouldn't be missed was made by someone  who crawled out of a taxi after a spectacularly good night on the sauce, its author would actually be quite delighted to see it gone.. :x
