computers

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Assuming your ISP is not BT (which would explain the wholesale page) then that issue is not your router, it is the link between the BT equipment and your ISP.
Powercuts / brownouts can play havoc with domestic equipment. Re-entering your details should make no difference but the restart of your router will have forced a reconnection attempt. Good routers will try this every 1 minute (at least) when no connection is available but cheaper ones may not.
The problem when your router connects to the BT equipment at the exchange but does not pass through to your ISP is not always cured when your ISP restores their connection. This is because your router has downloaded the routing tables from BT and won't update them for a certain period as BT redirects all traffic to their holding page. Whenever you see it, unplug your router for a few seconds and plug back in. that will clear the cache in the router and re-connect.

If that's how they wrote deactivated, then it's almost certainly some f*cker's idea of a joke, likely a phishing trip but it could mean that you have some spyware on your machine. Download, update and then run a thing called Spybot, from http://www.safer-networking.org/dl/ and if it's spyware, that'll deal with it. Similar software is probably available these days but that's what I/we always used to use before the L(E)As ditched Windows in favour of something less troublesome.

Or maybe you have broken Branson. Go easy on him eh, he's no spring chicken!

My money is on Rich having broken the internet again. Hopefully he has only broken it in France as I have received an email from a Nigerian General who has £1million of inheritance from a distant relative I had forgotten about to put in to my bank account. all he wanted was all my credit card details, pin number, address and inside leg measurement. Pretty reasonable I thought ;)

btw Rich, assuming you are still running a Windows PC, you should have an anti-virus (plenty of free ones, Microsoft security essentials, avg, avast, etc) and the occasional scan with something like malware bytes anti malware (google MBAM). There is a free version which works perfectly.

If you are doing "dubious" surfing of the internet, could I suggest you install firefox with adblock plus and use that instead of internet explorer. it will filter 99% of the rubbish before it gets to be a problem.

Yeah, I mean, you could find an innocent-looking link like the following eBay one, leading to a very lovely classic Datsun and the link could cause you to spend 2 and a half grand that you had earmarked for dull stuff like household bills, go on, you know you want it (    ):
