So, having attended a show yesterday, It was particularly sunny and hot with very little shade available, on the other hand, I'm sure it could equally be very wet and soggy.
So, question is..do any of you (with cars really) take any form of shelter with you. There were a few couples yesterday who had sundome type shelters, one had a fishing brolly type thing and 2 of the clubs had large dome shelters.
I have been looking at shelters online today, a popular one is the coleman sundome

Cheap and light enough but quite low if you are on normal deck chairs?
Any thoughts people?

Re: Shelter!
Since I started needing to put sun cream on my head, I have taken to wearing a hat when going out in the sun for long periods. I haven't taken much more than that with me. The local car shows to me normally have a beer tent or similar to hide in and cool down (or dry off as is more often the case). Any shows that don't have a vendor selling cold drinks are missing a trick.

Re: Shelter!
I have to say that I'm always far too busy looking at all the other cars in the show to need a shelter. I'm with Terry G on this one. Wear a hat and cool down or dry off in the beer tent. I don't need suncream on my head though!
We do return to the car to collect our lunch and may sit on the blanket near the car to eat it, but then we're off again. I can't really understand the folks that park up at a show and set up camp behind their car and sit there all day. I can't help feeling that they are missing the point of car shows. After all, I can look at the back of my car anytime I like without going to a show where there is all sorts of other interesting metal on view.
Having said all that, it is good to be able to chat to the owner of the interesting metal, but so many of the "campers" seem so engrosed in gazing at their back bumpers that discussion, sometimes, seems unwelcome.
In the same way, I can't understand the concourse competitors who spend the whole show polishing their pride and joy but I do love looking at the result as well as the cars that are obviously "used"
We're all different though, and all enjoy our hobby in different ways. As long as we all keep these old cars on the road and take them to shows to be seen, I don't mind what anybody does...Even if they've modified their ride beyond all recognition!....Yuck! and even if it is a car that I don't consider a classic. As long as they do, and enjoy the scene it's all fine by me.

Re: Shelter!
For me, there is only so much looking I can do..lol
I quite like having a relax and a read..sort of an away-day where I can relax (especially if ive attended the show by myself)and chill out without the rigors of the working week to worry about. Perhaps ive missed the point of this showing lark?
Perhaps I need to chop the Singer in for a classic camper?

That could be interesting. I think the mag tried that a few years ago but gave up due to terminal rot.kevin wrote:I need to chop the Singer in to a classic camper?

Re: Shelter!
Just spent 4 days at Silverstone with 3.5 days of very strong sun - on my desk I have a Pink Highlighter Pen and I'm just the same colour and as sore as hell !! Very little shade there except on Friday when there was access to some of the grandstands but otherwise you are outside all the time. I was already well cooked by Thursday afternoon queuing for about hour and half to visit the pit-lane, Friday and Saturday at various locations all around the track and then race day by the fence opposite the entrance to the pits at Vale (between Stowe and Club). A hat helped shade my forehead but my rather prominent nose went almost purple!
Local Mini Owners Club has a Coleman Event Shelter which we use when at shows - I didn't realise until searching just now that they have two sizes, 12x12 and 15x15 but obviously these are too big for the question asked in the original posting. First I found is shown here

Re: Shelter!
Many meet up with classic owning mates and they have the wives along as well, and sometimes the kids!
Not all wives/kids enjoy looking at other classics, and are just along for the day out to meet up with friends!
While they sit under a decent gazebo nattering and sipping wine, the chaps are out looking at the metal, and pop back for a cold one every now and then!
PS!
Just to be fair and not sexist!
Dont see many classic owning ladies, either single or dragging the hubby out with them though, but they must exist!
If you are one and single, would love to meet you at a show!
A place to gather and natter about your car or cars!

Re: Shelter!
Yep! point taken. As I said, we all enjoy our cars and shows in different ways. Perhaps when I've attended a few more shows Kevs Idea will seam even more appealing than it does now. Although, I think I may be coming round to the idea already!
I did attend a 3 day TSSC main show a few years ago on my own and have to admit that sitting ouside my Tent next to Poppy with a good book and a better bottle of wine was VERY enjoyable with the added bonus of a field of Triumphs to look at when I turned the page or took a sip!
Topaz! you lucky, lucky, lucky ba.......
