Was it not strange that Tim Shaw had such difficulty in locating the woodwork for the Minor? I seem to remember when Wheeler Dealers restored a Minor Mike Brewer was able to go to a workshop that specialised in Minor woodwork and see all the parts he needed being made up for him?
I hope you watched the programme where we really restored a VW Camper. What a shame all the rot that had to be surgically removed was edited. It was not the 'minter' that it appeared. Both front arches had to be cut out and replaced including cutting the new arches and making them fit. Both rear lower quarter panels needed replacing, the sliding door sill, cab floor under both front seats, corners of the windscreen frame rotted through etc. 5/6 days in all for 2 guys. There is only so much you can fit into 46 minutes of film.
The important thing is it looked the mutts when it was finished. Another fantastic paint job from Nathan Barber and some brilliant prepping by Richard, Stephan and Jan. Paul was his usual amazing self welding in the repair panels with Richard. My S-I-L Rob put most of the living area back together. Well he does fitted kitchens so was perfect for the job. Steve the sign writer is amazing. (He is restoring a 1960's Seddon 10 ton flatbed truck with help from a few of us in the other workshop.) The bolt on bits in comparison were easy. Brian the VW owner is a real nice guy. I am sure that came across on the show. Next week is the RS1600i.
Sorry Eric I meant to reply to your posting. We had to find another supplier after the first couldn't do it in the time and so we had to find another guy in a couple of days. We don't always have the time to find stuff as others do.
Keep up the good work guys, near the end on my wife's Beetle after seven years. Only to come home a few weeks ago to find someone, had used our driveway to turn around hit her Beetle hard and drove off.
So the whole front end which I repaired is now smashed in?
I feel your pain, It is a complete arse when people do that. I had the same thing a few years ago only the driver dumped his car and ran away (uninsured). Even though I had it on CCTV and the driver was obviously the person the car was registered to, the police were worse than useless.
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.
The only time the Police will act is if the person running away ran past a speed camera at a speed that was recorded as being in excess of the statutory speed limit for that section of the highway sir. ie chummy was speeding! If he was able to maintain a speed in excess of 30MPH for 100 metres plus 10% he would not be charged but would be signed up for the British Athletics Team!! It's that bloody stupid.
This country is a joke when it comes to the law. Rob a train and get 30 years murder somebody get 15. Rob banks and 'pistol whip' a pensioner receive umpteen life sentences and get sent to an open prison and then be allowed out for the weekend to rob a building society!!
I have had 2 cars stolen, a secure unit broken into and tools and a generator set taken and just crime numbers to show for it.
