Car TV shows, like buses they are..
Re: Car TV shows, like buses they are..
Finally watched "Cars That Rock" this morning. I really liked it. Anyone else catch it yet?
Re: Car TV shows, like buses they are..

I certainly did. Twice as it happens because I neglected to set the start and end times for downloading the show at a couple of minutes before and after the start and finish of the scheduled times so first time around, I only reached up to a minute from the end and me being me, needed to know how it ended

Quest - in common with most of the channels whose output consists more usually of repeats - don't employ PDCs so if the show starts a minute early, then you miss a minute but at least these same channels will record a show again if you erase the first showing and the next episode hasn't aired yet.
I thought that it was a brilliant show and couldn't find any significant aspect of it that I didn't find enjoyable thanks to the man's infectious - and clearly 100% genuine - enthusiasm but did you notice that when he was taking his bunnet off to change into his helmet, the camera's view of Brian was obstructed just enough so that we never actually got a view of the top of his head. Could it be that he's starting to thin a bit? I didn't think that happened to rock performers as a rule.

I'd say that was possibly the best one on Freeview (I don't get Sky or other satellite TV) and look forward to the rest. As John says, Quest repeats the programmes often enough to the make you hate them (how many times as American Hotrod been shown?), so there's a chance that you will get to see it several times. Unlike many though, Brian's enthusiasm and narrative makes this one worth staying in to watch!
I see yet another is coming on Freeview (Dave) - Sin City Motors (or something like it). I think it's on Tuesdays at 8:00 pm and seems to be more about custom cars, but it could be worth a look and there's usually naff all to watch at 8:00 on Tuesday nights!

One thing i did notice about Cars that rock. Yet another helper called Phil. WTF is it about car shows where there's always a guy named Phil?

Re: Car TV shows, like buses they are..

I too really enjoyed Cars That Rock, BJ seemed totally at home presenting the show, there are few who can treat the camera as their friend but he managed totally, I have to admit I knew very little about him until I watched this, but what a great guy.
Does he still live in this country does anyone know? Just he still seemed so totally down to earth that he still had the common touch so noticeably absent today from others in the popular music industry.
Saw that one with "Gene Hunt" in too (well they are the same person aren't they), the experiment with the kids, I think they chose the Metro purely because it was the stronger colour, given the choice of a light blue or dark blue crayon they (I am sure) would have chosen the dark blue one too. When confronted with 3 red cars however, that's when they noticed the MINI had a "face". That's what I think.
You were saying about all these shows with a Phil in them? Well, you know I said about that Ultimate Wheels show? That fella with the ginger sideburns that I didn't know the name of?
...he's called Will!

Looks like Classic Car "Rescue" are doing a campervan this week too.
Apparently taking drum brakes apart is "a big job" Since when does it take longer than 10 minutes a corner?!?!

Yeah, I already mentioned that. Do keep up, Man!TerryG wrote:Looks like Classic Car "Rescue" are doing a campervan this week too.

Sadly, Brian has homes all over the world these days but spends most of his time in something called "Los Angeles."

They used one to weld a sunroof opening on an MGB GT in the last series. So perfect was the MIG weld that you couldn't see any signs of welding (different metal/colour or distortion) that you'd almost think they put a new shell on the vehicle!!
Which is one reason why I gave up watching - too many "faked" bits, either for dramatic effect or to con the audience.
Has anyone noticed that there seems to have been more enthusiasm on "For the Love of Cars" in the last couple of episodes?
