Re: battery
Hi rich.
Contact JCB and they will give you the details or measure the battery and the terminal positions and you will find it on one of the battery supplier websites. Try Battery Dirstribution Group for a good price.

4 CR2032s wired in series should do the trick
The farm's one is on loan at the moment so I can't check but if you can't get hold of JCB customer services (who are superb btw) then I'll ask Richard who is the fountain of all JCB knowledge for you tomorrow.

Re: battery
My Fergy had a similar battery to Mother's Metro (I found that out when the METRO battery died!!); when that battery died (after about ten years), I was given a battery from a Transit - it made quite a difference! My little DB had an Escort van battery when I bought it. Mind you, it was a pain to start (it was an "addict"
). However, once I sorted the holed piston and rings (I actually put three pistons in - it's a 3-pot engine), it starts reasonably well (I should have rebored it or had liners fitted but that's too expensive for a toy).
I would suspect a 643 or 644 (depending on terminal arrangement) is a good starting* point; my big tractor has one or the other - but it starts almost better than the Golf, so isn't so dependant on a good battery.
*Sorry, I have just noticed the pun there..,
