Just about to move house in the next few days so I have had to keep the peace and do the call of duty stint at home hence no work on the Jav - but a very successful NEC trawl of suppliers / services yielded some great results. With the shell / panels nearing welding completion it was still a concern that we could not treat the hidden rust in the double / triple metal skins / chassis box sections / inaccessible areas etc. We had looked at several companies offering dipping of the complete shell but there is much bad press about the process - it removes the paint to bare metal ok but then the process leaves chemical residue in the metal seams - these over time (up to 24 months later) create reaction with the cars new paintwork and I would be gutted to have put this amount of effort into the car to have the paint start to lift / react after the event (and its not even my own car).

We did a bit of research and found a company that offered a method that gives the bare metal / derust finish that we require but without the residue / paint reaction problems - they also state that their process will not effect the leadwork on the car - all other dip / strip processes do - the staff talked a lot of sense and on a practical / sensible no hassle basis - they even open at weekends so home restorers can deliver / collect - and even offer a collection delivery service at sensible prices

911 shell at the show as a example of the process - The companies name is 'Envirostrip' and they are Tamworth based - the Javelin shell & panels are booked in for the first week of December so that we can get the car back for the festive break and start on the shaping up / paint preparation (I have to take compulsory holiday from the day job - and I don't want to spend two weeks watching Christmas telly or doing jigsaws)

The NEC shopping trip yielded good results - with the vast majority of the trim / odds / clips / fastenings / sundries & paint sourced along with odd tool

Old English White will be utilised on the metal dash, metal interior trim and the road wheels

Managed to unpick the tacks on the door repair and reshape it so that I could roll the swage line inwards to line up with the front wing & rear door

Once I was happy with the alignment I removed the door and welded the repair fully - then cleaned it up and rehung the door

Still have some welding repairs on the doors to do in order to sort the previous bodged repairs

So the shell has its movement wheels under it and I managed to get it out of the workshop and on to the trailer by early evening - got back home with the trailer and will run the shell up to Tamworth tomorrow.

Amazing - I can't believe that with all the chaos at home with the flood that you have still found time to work on the car

You have to have the right priorities, Car first, house second.

Mad busy with the day job but over the past few days found time to collect the now paint & rust free shell & body panels from Envirostrip at Tamworth - we have another Javelin project in the wings - this is a ex factory experimental car (hence very, very rare) having been sat in the corner of the workshop for a few years a decision was made to also have this car bare metaled - otherwise the trailer would have been going empty up to Tamworth - so having spent last weekend stripping the shell out, Keith then spent several evenings stripping the doors & panels down ready for the trip - We loaded up on Sunday and I drove the trailer up on Monday

Never one to miss the opportunity I also stripped the few bits of the bulkhead off my Jowett Jupiter special - which is a future project - so a proper trailer load with this lot
