Offside rear wing was next on the list apart from the leading edge the wing is solid but this area takes all the spray & crud directly off the rear wheel so they always rot out at this point - previous repair covered by body solder Solder burnt off - you can just see a previous repair with quite neat gas welding that has let in new metal to the leading edge but they have failed to protect the area on the underside of the wing so its just rotted back through again

Rear support to the leading edge is also past its sell by date I made a new support bracket up utilising the old one for pattern by leaving it attached rather than hacking it out at which stage it would fall to bits and all points of reference would be lost New section was made up of 3 pieces then welded together - main long section requiring a session on the shrinker to form the slight radius profile of the wing

Only one way forward now Wing reattached to bodyshell in order to check door gapping & alignment - Support bracket attached to upper repair panel of wing and lower repair panel With this checked I can now make up two new angle brackets for the support and obtain the required gapping - Has can be seen I will form the repair in several sections due to the complex compound curves of the wing in this area

Rear support spot welded to the wing at the top & bottom along with new mounting brackets which were also spot welded on - with the wing now firmly reattached the repair sections could be fabricated and tacked in Fortunately I have this for folding the repair sections I also have this shrinker / stretcher which makes light work of producing the tricky radius at the bottom of the wing - both bits of kit were E Bay buys at sensible ££

Welded up and initial clean back Despite a lot of care, taking my time with a hit & miss welding technique and leaving the panel to cool in between welding durations - some heat distortion was still experienced - this would have been far worse had the panel not been firmly held in position

So wing back off and the underside cleaned back - all the hidden areas that could not be accessed for welding with the wing mounted to the bodyshell were attended to prior to a session with the hammer & dolly to bring the initial shape back Still a little more work required with the hammer / dolly along with some fettling required to even the gap between the door & wing But ho so very nearly there !! Even the underside looks tidy

Made a little more progress last night After a bout of adjusting / fettling I obtained the aperture gapping that matched the front wing - should you ever find yourself having to do this exercise between opening panels always remember to fit the aperture seals / rubbers - if its a locking panel make sure that the locks / catches have been fitted - otherwise when you come to fit the car up you will find that the aperture gapping / panel fit is very different from what you had when working with the bare panels On to the rear of the wing then and previous accident damage resulted in a poor fit to the rear shroud

With the wing bolted up tight in all areas other than the poor fitting section several blows from the underside with a lump hammer onto a wide blunt bolster chisel soon brought the desired effect

The rear lamp housing / wing area had also been shunted at some stage The housing is distorted and someone had screwed it on to the wing with self tappers when it should be attached from the underside - we have some replacement housings from a spares car so these will be utilised Area cleaned up and the wing brought back to shape - the holes made by the self tappers were welded up along with the redundant / non original hole made under the lamp housing for additional lighting Holes drilled and the new Javelin script badge trial fitted
So all that remains is for the wing to come back off for some final fettling before being reattached for final alignment check
