I sell Trackers. Low cost ones best recovery rate at the mo is 12mins and then they found 3 others in locks ups that were missing and didn't have a tracker. So it saved 4 cars and locked up a theif..grrr
There's loads of cheap sim card based trackers around now which use the phone signal and gps mapping software to tell you where the car is, there was a thread about them on the old forum. If you look on ebay they seem to be around £60- £70 for UK based sellers.
The technology for these gets cheaper all the time, I'm certainly looking at getting one- some will also broadcast sound so you can hear what the thieving chavs are talking about.
