This does seem a bit odd- what's the whole story and what paperwork did they give you- if there's one thing I know about coppers it's that they don't do anything without lots of paperwork. Even when I was stopped for speeding, a minor offence which didn't even affect my insurance renewal I still had to read and sign stuff and was given paperwork....... :?:

There are only very limited situations where police can seize and impound your car- quoted straight from the governments own website- and I've seen so many of those traffic cop shows where I've been yelling at the screen 'why don't they just impound the car!!!!!!' ........ well this is why,
Part 5: When the police can seize your vehicle

The police can seize a vehicle they think is being driven carelessly or inconsiderately.

They can also seize a vehicle if they think it is being driven by someone who doesn’t have a proper licence or insurance.
.........and that's it!

So what's the story, what happened?

 Going equipped? In a very distinctive example of a fairly scarce old car? Yeah, 'cos if you were going equipped, you'd want to make yourself as identifiable as you possibly could just so that the Police didn't have to do too much work....

Pull the other one!
