Insurance company wants to see my license -why?
Hello Chaps
After 30 years or motoring and countless policies, Adrian flux have demanded a copy of my license. And they will cancel my cover if they dont get it. Why is this? Why cant they check it electronically in the same way that van hire companies do?
I am currently on 2 other policies niether of which asked this of me.
So what I really want to know is how many of you have been asked to send a copy and by which companies. And how do you feel about it.

When insuring the boy for his Mini, with me and the missus named drivers, "Insured To Drive" I think they are called, demanded all three after taking out the policy.
Seemed a bit silly and annoying really, yet more red tape.

I've never been impressed byAdrian Flux - every time you speak to them you get a different answer. They once quoted me an additional fee of £200 to change a vehicle but when I called back next day and spoke to someone different I actually to a £50 refund!

I've never been asked for my licence; how strange.
…that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today.

Martin. Did you ask why?

I've never been asked for my licence for insurance. I guess if you want to buy their product you have to abide by their conditions. They'll probably state that it's another way to stop criminals driving ie no licence = no insurance, but criminals don't play by the rules anyway.

I've had this issue too. And you don't know who's taking the details once you 've sent it . It's like putting a photo of it on the internet for anyone to copy ... Personally , i think they sell your details to Indian call centres...Like it's already been said ,it can be checked in seconds on their database anyway

Re: Insurance company wants to see my license -why?
When I asked what they wanted it for , all the girl said was that 'the insurance companies are now asking'. When asked why they could not check it electronically, she just reeled off the same answer.
After going on a couple of comparison sights I have had a load of quotes and emails trying to get my business, - in view of this, threatening to cancel over something which has never been asked of me in 30 years seems rather silly.

I had two different quotes from two different brokers .... yet both quotes with the same insurance company. One wanted licence copy ...one didn't... Insurance stinks .Brokers are supposed , (well the used to ) work to get YOU the best deal .. not now

Sounds about right for them - I'd just go somewhere else where they talk to you with a degree of respect.
