Shock news: decent project car found on eBay.co.uk!

#1 Post by JPB »

I nearly choked on my toenails when I found this one. I was eating them as that's preferable to buying a project from the remaining 99% of the crap - most of it at least 1000% overpriced - that I've viewed these past two weeks.

Wipe it over with an oily rag, get it running, get it tested and just use it as is. Proper classic car, it even has magneto ignition. That's what a straight six should look like. 8-)

Finally, A Vauxhall I would actually like to own ;)
I'd love to do a mechanical restoratation and leave the body like that. I bet it would get more people looking at it than anything shiny!

The forum has 1086 members so if we each put £1.75 in to a pot we could buy it! ;)

Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

I was tempted but the dent on the front wing put me off.

8-) You'd all be welcome to come and have a go if I win it.

Plan would be so:
Clean it well underneath and, once sure that there's no chassis rot, soak it in Ensis fluid to preserve it.
Carry out work as required to make the car mechanically reliable, electronic ignition would be added to the mag since that can be done invisibly.
Replace the one tyre that has some signs of sidewall cracks, the others are all fine and were new comparatively recently.
Submit for MOT.
Spray the body in satin clearcoat to keep it exactly as is.
Add the car to Dad's key policy, register it to him then hand him the key and the list of shows that I'd like to be driven to.
Get used to being chauffeured and to arriving places in something that's sure to attract more admiring glances than the dozens of formulaic trailer queans with their polish and their anally retentive custodians.
:D

Finally; leave that dent alone to ward off people with adenoids.

Oooh... What a cunning plan. I wonder if I could do that to Rolf? I really like the idea of retaining his paintwork exactly as it is, rust & emulsion smears & all.

I took the [for me] unprecedented step of telling the vendor how much my proxy bid is for just so that I'm in with a shout. He's an honest sort and won't queer me up. Meanwhile, if anyone else wants a go; bring it on. 8-)
