More than satisfied with my March edition here, but just one comment about the round Britain trip in the Escort; surely that's not actually a "round Britain" trip at all, but a series of journeys, with quite some time between them, that happened to have been made in the same car?
An interesting account of some events from the car's working life for sure, but "Round Britain?" No.

The magazine entered a Brooklands Green Dolomite Sprint for the Club Triumph Round Britain Run back in 199?, having repaired some rot in the front subframe mounts and carried out a manual conversion ( ) prior to taking part. Now that event is a truer test of driver endurance, I'm thinking it's about time we were able to read of some similarly worthwhile achievement, perhaps a shot at the North Cape Run, undertaken in one of Danny's Interceptors, or maybe in the MX5 if economy is a barrier? That should be easy, given that it's possible to travel across deserts to Bethlehem in one of those and live to tell the tale.

I have just finished reading through the latest issue, pretty good all round I couldn't pick out any typos / spelling errors this time which is a nice change.
The only article i skipped was the "driving around britain in an Escort" article. Road trips don't really interest me and trying to read it was too much like being forced to spend an afternoon with my grand father

Has anybody told Bauer that the March issue is out as practicalclassics.co.uk is still advertising February.

But that was just the thing, Terry. The feature wasn't about a "road trip", it was about a guy who covered the coastline in small bits and pieces during a period of a few years, returning to his life in between these motoring holidays.
No disrespect to the owner or the car intended, but come on, what's so exciting about doing the coastline over a period of several years when the distance is only 7781 miles?

I could quite easily claim that the 27,000 miles I covered in the Dolomite last year alone were a "road trip" of just more than the length of the earth's equator (24901 miles and 811.1 yds), but that wouldn't be strictly accurate either, since this was, just like the Escorts driver's trip, covered in a way that saw me spend at least 295 nights at home in my own bed during that year.

What next? The true story of the truck driver who once drove from Inverness to Bristol all in one week? He'd have been looking for alternative work by now.

Looks to be a very good issue this month, though I've not had the chance to read through it thoroughly yet. The only little thing I notice, is that on the cover you say 'How to buy a Mercedes Ponton project' but in actual fact it's a Pagoda when you get to page 112.

Sorry, I have a couple of gripes on the Wolseley Hornet article by Richard "Judge" Dredge.

The article says a three speed auto was optional. The AP box BMC used in Minis and derivatives was always a four speed.

A low ride hieght on a dry car may not be worn-out knuckle joints at all. It's just as likely to be cones that have settled with age. More recent non-genuine replacements seem to squash down within 12 months. The solution is genuine replacements or fitting a set of hi-lo's to allow the ride height to be adjusted. But if the cones have gone hard the ride quailty will still be bad.

I also have to take exception with the Escort "round Britain" article. Broken into legs like that with gaps in between is nothing special. Heck, I've driven that far in two weeks towing a Caravan before.
