Re: Zel's Fleet Blog...Rover, Renault, Peugeot, Trabant, Invacar & Sinclair C5
My money is on crank seal.
OK, get your logic, but I'd have thought there's not a lot of oil on the crankcase side, so less likely? However, there IS a lot of pressure on the down-stroke, so I guess it could have been blowing through over time. I hope you're right, as presumably your engine ...

Re: Zel's Fleet Blog...Rover, Renault, Peugeot, Trabant, Invacar & Sinclair C5
Thanks for the updates Zel, will be interesting to see how that all goes.
Looks like quite a lot of oil has been flying around in that bell housing, i think i'd be trying to work out where that's come from and solve it while it's all apart....
Cheers

Re: Jag XK8 loosing coolant
I have the exact same car, but have never had any cooling problems so can't really help from experience. However, check the carpets and underlay in the footwells very thoroughly, as a heater matrix leak can take a long time to become evident, as the underlay can soak up large amounts of coolant ...

Re: Zel's Fleet Blog...Rover, Renault, Peugeot, Trabant, Invacar & Sinclair C5
I do always forget quite how much smaller than the B the Midget is - having one parked only a couple of spaces over from the white one a couple of photos above really reminded me of that. They also look like a car that must be a huge amount of fun - essentially being a car that you wear rather ...

Re: Sunbeam alpine
I am assuming this is the modern fastback Alpine, the sports car would be positive earth and have a dynamo.
That's a good point, I'd assumed that it had an alternator from factory, but if it originally had a dynamo and someone has converted it, I suppose it's possible that they've used an ...

Re: Sunbeam alpine
I can't help with an alternator upgrade, but my immediate thought is that assuming that the car is roughly standard (i.e. no accessories that draw a heavy current) then the stock alternator should be more than adequate, therefore there's something wrong. We need to know more - is the car standard ...

Ah right thanks, a different setup from the phase 1 cars like mine. PFV Online probably sell the part you need. Just ordered some Meyle engine mounts for mine from them today....

Which suspension bushes are you after?
I get a lot of aftermarket parts from PFV Online - they specialise in Volvo parts, and have a sister site for Saab.

Excellent choice sir, I'm quite a big fan of the older Volvos, I have a 1997 V70 T5, the previous model to yours, and can endorse your view that it's a well made car and surprisingly easy to work on. Had mine for about 14 years now and not found a job I couldn't do myself.
