Re: Rust remover?
The deox gel does work well on surface rust, but if it's thick or heavily pitted you'd need to attack it with a wire brush or something similar first. Also, after it's done it's job the deox needs to be wiped off with a wet cloth - so you'll need some access to the box section to get the gel off ...

Re: New MOT certificates.
The new system is fine in theory but for it to really work VOSA have to make it easier to check the MOT on-line.
If you're viewing a car you can check history, tax, even insurance status with just the reg.no. but VOSA insist on having the document reference from the V5C or the MOT certificate ...

^^ WHS ^^
Almost certainly a faulty govenor valve. It can be caused by lack of pressure because of a dirty filter but, occasionally changing the fluid and/or filter will actually make it worse as the fresh fluid will dislodge tiny particles of dirt which then get caught up in other parts of the box ...

Re: Recommend auto angle grinders
If you've got an Aldi nearby keep an eye out for their specials - my old (and vey much abused) powecraft grider has lasted longer than anything else I've had over the years, all of which were 'quality' brands.

Re: How many floors?
I did the sills on my wife's Mini last year. One side was original but with lots of patches. The other had the original outer sill, patches on that, a wide cover sill, and patches on that... and the inners were three layers think in places too  I think I halved the 0 to 60 just by repairing it ...

Re: mini sills
ah right didnt realise they were over sills i thought they were just for a different year, cant understand why originals have them six large openings though? let water out?
Yes, the openings are drain holes for the sill section. If you fit the wide cover sills any moisture that gets inside just ...

Re: high insurance price
£2600 is a good price for a 17 year old - best quote our son could get for a 1 litre Polo was £3800 !!
He's decided to to keep to his motorbike for the next six months then put it on the road when he' turns 18... and the price will be nearer £1600.

Re: Tripod?
It's just another type of CV joint...
The tripod refers to a three-pronged yoke fitted to the shaft which carries a bearing on each prong. These bearings then run in channels in the outer casing a bit like the balls do in a conventional Rzeppa joint (the 6-ball type you find at the outer end of the ...
