Dot proof paint.

My Shadow has a Dot tank which has a steel cover.

The cover which unbolts is in a bit of a state.

Bearing in mind that Dot strips paint and sooner or later Dot will get on it.

Has anybody found a paint that is truly Dot proof. Colour silver. So aerosol best.

Regards
Bob

After a quick Google I emailed Hammerite and asked if smooth silver was dot proof. The reply is that they have not tried it and Hammerite is ok up to 90c temp.

I emailed back that its for a steel reservoir. At 50c.
I have asked them to paint a piece of steel and then pour dot on it. And tell me what happens.

Do you find people are generally confused about your use of the word dot in lieu of brake fluid?
I've read your postings on the reason why you use it but in 35 years of messing about with vehicles, you are the only person I've found using the terminology.

I actually used the phrase Dot brake fluid.

fluid means gas or liquid. Dot is an oil. Automatic transmission fluid is an oil.

My use of the word dot is normal because it rules out LHM.

As you know RR changed to LHM on 1980.

However if it confuses I will call it Dot Brake fluid.

This reminds I going to do a posting on LHM.

Or you could say brake fluid like everyone else in the world.
Absolutely everyone knows what that means so no confusion.

to me dot - department of transport or a small spherical mark on something.

As I just said I shall call it Dot Brake fluid. Once Dot brake fluid is written in a posting it becomes obvious what the single word Dot means. But your wish is my command and shall use Dot Brake fluid in full. I try to be accurate and not to wordy in explaining tech stuff. Brake fluid to me means either LHM or CSHO or MOS or Dot.

Any way as threatened have done a LHM posting

Kind regards
Bob.

Dot strips paint
Not if it is DOT 5 (otherwise usually known as Silicone brake fluid).

[I know that DOT 5 is a standard rather than a recipe, but I believe that only silicone fluid has been developed to meet the standard].
