Hello all...again!

As you can see from the pic, the side window in my soft top has split and my sellotape repair hasn't worked

So I have 3 questions.

1. What is the best way to remove all traces of the old window?
2. There seems to be all kinds of thicknesses of new clear PVC. Which thickness do I need?
3. What glue should I use to stick on the new ones?

Morning FB, would it not be worth having a word with a local awning repair company and get a new piece sewn in?
Your motor is lovely and it would only enhance matters.

That would mean removing the hood and spending money I don't have.

Apart from that, the current windows aren't sewn. They look to be glued or maybe "heated" in.

I believe they are "heated" in. You need to get a proper car hood company to do it, anything else wouldn't look right.

Mike, spend the money that you don't have. It's not worth spoiling the sheep for a ha'porth of tar and you'll soon earn the money provided that you give up such luxuries as Merlot and mousetrap, both of which are bad for you in any case!

Or, you could follow this Handy how to which shows how to do the job in best "Blue Peter" fashion. Get practising that John Noakes impression!

Or just use gripfill. I have seen windscreens fitted with it so I can't think of a reason not to use it on a soft top.

Give up Merlot?? How very dare you suggest such a thing!! Lots of reports say red wine is good for you anyway.

Mike, even I wouldn't joke about such things as keeping the weather out of our beloved old motors. The link worked fine when I posted, but would appear to have fallen over and died on its backside since.
I'll continue to search for similar information, in that case it explained how to fit replacement flexible windows to soft tops using a hot glue gun and the appropriate glue sticks for the job.

as well as uppers to soles (she makes shoes as a hobby :S )
If it will cope with the flex between rubber and leather it will certainly do vinyl to vinyl without issue.
Assuming it has just come unstuck, sticking it back together can't be that difficult. if it's split and needs replacing then a UV resistant clear vinyl shouldn't be too difficult to source.

I think I'll be investing in UV resistant vinyl and glue, be it hot melt or "Liquid Vinyl glue, and do the best job I can. The rest of the hood and rear window are all in superp condition and fit really well. hence my reluctance to replace the whole thing or even take it off and get it professionally repaired. (and of course, a complete lack of cash!)

At least it will keep the weather out a can't look as bad as it does now! he says hopefully!
