E-type, have I missed the boat?

After the sad death of a relative I'm due a bit of a windfall so what else can I do but add to my fleet of vehicles?
After some consideration I had decided on a Jaguar E-Type and started to look around and put some feelers out.
I was shocked to see just how much in recent months these have shot up in price, can a nice condition 1970's 2+2 V12 really be worth 40-50 grand or is it unrealistic sellers chancing their arm? Its not so long ago these were considered to be the poorest relation and were pretty much unwanted.
The car I really want is a 4.2 coupe but the working class bloke in me refuses to pay £60k plus, looks like it will have to stay in my dream garage.......

It's just one of the "In" cars / brands. Now if you want value for money, in a GT car, biased I may be but the MGB GT V8 is it. When they were both new, an E Type was say £3500 and the MG £2600 (Morgan Plus 8 was £2200). That's not the way prices pan out now, though I recently saw an item tipping the V8 as a car soon to rise (Though I am not planning to sell and by sods law, it would only go up after I sold)

I drove a BGTV8 a few years ago and really liked it, I suppose if I'm going to go down that road I should really V8 my TR7.

depending on the size of windfall and personal circumstance, if i had been left a large enough sum of money and my dream was to own an etype then id say go for it, you are only on this earth for a small amount of time so enjoy it while you can.
once owned and enjoyed you can move it on and get some decent cash back

also make a logical argument so follow your dream, but here's a : try renting one from one of those places that hire out classics for a day or two then, if it fails to match up to your hopes of what an E Type is like to live with in the 21st Century, you get to hand it back and won't have invested a fortune in something that hasn't made you smile as much as you'd hoped it might.

buy a micra & rent a jag.. although the more modern jags are a lot cheaper....

I did drive a coupe a few years ago now and in fairness it didn't drive that great, mind you neither does my TR7, that's just old cars for you no matter what starry eyed owners try and tell you.
Although not the best looking Jag the more I think about it a 2+2 would suit my needs better as at least I can get the kids in the back, I'm just worried the price increase on these is only a blip and in a while they will fall as fast as they have risen.
The other thing is I don't want a ex USA car, one that's been colour changed or converted from LHD to RHD, auto to manual, I don't want much, do I?
I think I may hang on for a while and monitor prices while I wait for the right car to come along

How about a xjs, fantastic cars and great value for money, Interceptors also look good value comparred to the e type.

Mind you a tr7 with v8 and suspension tweaks is also a transformation.

Xjs is a good suggestion, always liked them since I saw Ian Ogalvy driving one in the return of the saint and Gareth Hunt in the new avengers.
A Tr7 and Xjs would be nearly the full set of Avengers cars!!!!

Plus you could buy a REALLY good one of each, the insurance for 10 years and still have change from what you would have spent on an e-type
