It occurred to me that modern cars don't seem to have visible aerials. Not being the owner of such a thing, I wondered whether aerials have changed and upon checking, I see that some are attached to the windscreen.

Has anyone got any experience of such things I am looking to fit a spare radio cassette to the Morris and that has no holes in the wings. If I can avoid having to drill holes, that would be better. My father has taken a similar view, with his 1275 Midget and intends only to use the CD player. If he could have some other kind of aerial, he could used the radio part as well.

Here is one idea, the other is a thought or a vague memory of the one in a sierra
estate I had, where the cable went around the windscreen and was clipped in
place and not part of the window, but hidden by the trim.

Yes, my Volvo V70 has the aerial incorporated with the rear side screens, looks like a heated rear screen element, and works very well indeed. My Jag has the mobile phone aerial as part of the rear screen too, which also works well.

I've seen kits where you can get an aerial element incorporated as part of a sun-tint strip across the top of the windscreen, which would probably work OK, and other kits as mentioned above which are also perfectly viable options. May need a fair bit of tuning to get to work best on MW/LW, but I'd expect them to work fine on FM.

Most moderns are either in with the HRW element, or like ours a separate element in the rear side window with signal amplifier.

The Dolomite had an internal stick on aerial, it's now on the shelf as although it picked up the radio, it wasn't as good as a proper one IMO, plus I quite fancied a nice roof mount one. I needs 12v and an earth, 12v from power to radio unit, and earth, well it's a short wire from aerial part so was attached to the rear view mirror screw.

I had one of those stick-on Halfords ones in my minor for years, it worked superbly. When it was with a garage in Bath they fitted a wing mounted one which other than looking very dated works equally well. Ford only stopped using roof aerials on the focus in 2010 so not that long ago.
