Colour change Mini Cooper Spi

Firstly hello all, I'm new to the forum so if there's a topic area where this post should be please don't shout haha, I'm on a land rover forum too and my god they get bitchy!! I've been looking at some projects on here and you seem like my kinda guys haha. I run a small bodyshop and recently had a late mini cooper some in for alot of welding and a respray. I tried to convince the owner to keep the car original to retain it's future value but he was adamant he wanted the bonnet lip removed, mk 1 grille fitted and a respray in surf blue with o/e white roof. I'm not a stickler for originality unless a car is rare or has 10 miles on the clock but what do y'all think? Was changing the colour a bad move?
