Where to get spray paint made up

Where can I get a can of code 76 Balmoral Grey (For a Hillman Imp but may be under Talbot/Chrysler in books) made up?

My local motor factors say they can't do it and as its just a small can I want, I dont want to spend a fortune...can Halfords or similar do it? I'm based in Cardiff.

Halfords can do it, yes, and their match tends to be pretty good as a rule. The thing that matters is finding the staff member at your nearest branch who can be bothered to look up the paint code, which is under Peugeot these days.

Or mail order from Paints4U. They do good quality 400ml aerosols.

Same reason as many NOS Rootes, Chrysler and Talbot parts are, Peugeot Talbot was the last trading name of the British arm of Chrysler after Peugeot bought the Talbot brand. I had to buy some bits for a 928cc (Chrysler) Sunbeam engine recently, for a Rebel application, and these all arrived in a Peugeot box. Most disconcerting but it turned out that common parts (such as those for the 1.9 XUD engine found in the Horizon) were all packed that way and many bits for earlier stuff followed suit, perhaps because it was cheaper only needing the one label for the boxes?

Iwan, try Autopaints in Ely Distribution Centre. They used to be able to do aerosols with colours in their paint scheme.

And indeed the French arm. All Simca products were re-branded Talbot and Matra-Simca Talbot-Matra.

Try looking up your local auto paint suppliers in yellow pages - or pop into a local body shop and ask where they would get a small amount mixed.

Many of these local suppliers to the trade will mix up a can for under a tenner, either to a manufacturers paint code or to a sample.

Many motor factors can mix it, too.
