I think that the chrome trim on painted/coloured wheels is making a comeback
as this picture of the latest version of the vw beetle shows

My car is a 1997 Chrysler Neon 4 door, and here is my attempt
This is my rear wheel unpainted with the chrome trim ring and hub cap.
14" wheels and trim rings possibly from the 1970's, hub cap from a
1970's Austin Mini

And this is what someone else did to theirs but they added white wall tyres to the wheels

Alright so these steelies are from a dodge dart. These wheels came on:
65-76 Dodge Aspen, Dart, Demon, Sport, and Swinger (all with 4 wheel drum brakes)
65-76 Plymouth Duster, Scamp, Valiant, and Volare (all with 4 wheel drum brakes)
And 65-69 cudas with drum brakes.

They are 14"x4.5" 5x4" bolt pattern, which is 5x101.6mm if my math is correct.
And the hubs are larger than the neon also. I'm not sure what the backspacing is,
but they DO NOT clear front brakes. If you have new pads, a 10mm spacer is
needed along with a small bit of grinding to the brake caliper. They clear rear
drums no problem, and require a 5mm spacer for rear disc applications.
The "white walls" are actually port a walls that sit in the bead between the rim an
the tire.
The baby moons are from summitracing.com they are 8.75" diameter ones I think,
wheelvintique brand.

If you want that look, but not the super thin rims or hassle to get the to fit go with
these.

Made for the pt cruiser, 15x6 5x100 +25mm offset.

If I'm right then I might be at the front of the trend for a change
What do you think?

I have seen a few "american" cars with them. There is a PT Cruiser in nottingham that i see most days like it but my personal opinion is they look rubbish on modern cars. They don't have chrome anywhere else so why have chrome hubcaps?!?!

Fashion doesn't need to be logical.

If they are production rims,I can see those Beetle wheels appearing on all sorts of modern (And old) Dubs.
