Finding out about shows... What're your favourites?

Hello good people. After doing a single show in 2010, and a quartet last year, I'd really like to do more this year. For preference, they should be in the South East, although for specialty ones like BMC/BL Day I'm definitely happy to travel beyond my normal territory.

This is where it gets a bit ass-backwards for this part of the forum; I'm trying to find out the best way of discovering which shows are on where, without having to search the web for every show's individual homepage or trawl all the local papers. I figured one good way of accomplishing this would be to ask people for recommendations of shows they've done & enjoyed attending.

So far I know I'd like to do Magnificent Motors Eastbourne in May, Darling Buds in July, and BMC/BL Day in August (which is the first show I did, but was unable to attend last year). Another I've heard favourable things about was at Amberley Chalk Pits, possibly their Summer Picnic in July?

Despite being local for Bromley Pageant, I really didn't enjoy going as an exhibitor last year and from what I've discussed with my ACI buddies none of us seem keen to maintain a presence there this year.

Personally I prefer the small local shows that aren't organised by the larger promoters such as Transtar. They tend to be cheaper (or free!) to get into and have a nice mix of people and cars... Problem is, as you say, finding out about them far enough in advance to offer my car to show! Local papres tend to be my only sourse for these types of show... Longbridge tends to be my only "definite", and at least its easy to find out details, though it can hardly be classed as small these days!

I'll second that. I edit the magazine for my local club, East Anglian Practical Classics, and I've just finished entering four pages of events already notified for 2012, over a wide radius.

Yes, definitely join a local club, they usually have a full calendar of events for the year, or buy Classic Car Weekly they usually have a full calendar for up and coming events.
My local club, Boston Classic Car Club, of which I'm now President , has a very full calendar, and not just car shows.
And another thing, I don't agree with paying to display my classic cars and avoid such shows , but let me get going on this subject.

That, among other reasons, is why we're not keen on Bromley.

I'm not aware of any local (to me) car clubs, and to be honest I find it hard enough just keeping up with the one I'm in Our local area organiser position is kinda vacant atm, and it's through investigations like this one that I'm seeing if I might feel comfortable with taking over the role...

Goodwood breakfast club is always a cracker.

Luton festival of Transport is great too.

Any of the Southern Classics events,they do one at Amberly which is always packed.
