I am pondering over buying a set of the bigdug shelving and storage boxes advertised in PC. If anybody else bought a set could you let me know what the quality is like? They look much cheaper than buying similar things in machine mart but i am always wary about buying something that is "too cheap".

I bought a 'bigdug' workbench which has been invaluable. Only criticism is the shelves are chipboard so a bit delicate and absorb any spills before I can clean it up. Its my own fault partly for being so clumsy :D

I made my own bench 25 years or so ago and it's survived all sorts of tractor-related attacks!

However, I did build two or three sets of similar shelving to these where I worked. I suggest that you seal the chipboard with varnish/old emulsion or gloss paint (a thin first coat and two or three unthinned). This will keep most of the damp and oil from soaking into the chipboard and help it last a lot longer! I used a proper timber preservative on my (wood) bench and occasionally strip it off and repeat the process. It may not look pretty, but it does make it last better.
