i turn my radio on as normal but i have no sound any ideals
how do i go about testing if it the radio, speaker etc

Tell us the make and model of the radio, and whether you've tested it out of the car as well as in situ please. Certain sets have their own, typical faults so that info would be a good place to start.

it a jvc KD-R421 it was woking fine till a few days ago when turn it on the unit power up but with no sound i have not taken it out of the car

Ah the problem is its in a beetle.....

Remove the speaker wires from the set and get a PP9 (square) 9v battery and touch it to the speaker wires + and - this will test the speakers and wiring you should hear them crakle.

I have had this happen on a couple of cars where the wiring has been rubbing on something and one of the speekers has ended up being a short to ground. The first thing I would do is pull the ISO connector from the back of the stereo and check that none of your speekers are grounding out.

A.another easy check - make sure the ariel connections are sound. I had an ariel disconnect from the back of the set and it was the same i.e nil sound.
If you have a CD/i pod see if that works - if it does then that will rule out speakers - radio amps sometimes die too but that's jumping the gun, so check out the simple things first, like loose connectors, earth and line fuse etc. You don't need to be a radio expert to do those

i think it grounding out the wire feel old i am thinking of rewiring the speaker maybe even charge the speakers

I thought that this was going to be about a car radio, my bad!

Modern **** like this is usually flawlessly reliable and that "radio" that you have there has every function on only two ICs, so is very easy to fix with a suitable chip shoe on the soldering iron, making the fault, such as it is, all the more likely to be down to dodgy connections at the back. Has the car really been butchered to take a modern ISO connector or is every pin fitted with an individual terminal to match? Either way, easy to sort but - if the AF output part of the IC that does that has been shorted by worn insulation - reckon on needing a new chip to get it running again. Roughly a fiver for that and ten minutes to fit it.

it has a ISO connector it has not been butchered i checked wiring and replace some of it
i tryed again today now the radio said "check wiring and reset" i know the wiring is good and correct so i pulled the radio out of the dash
their black burn marks at the back of the amp
