Tried to search for the last thread that asked this to C&P here, but it seems that the forum search ignores the words "First" and "car" because they're
too common
which, quite clearly, they're not since I couldn't find the "First Car" thread.

D'uh. :?

1974 Mini 1000. It was part exchanged for the MG Midget that I still own.

My first "Second" car was also a Mini 1000 and my only new car was a Mini City, also with a 998 engine (And it had disc brakes).

I remember the old thread on the old site too. First car was a 1967 1600E Cortina black in colour that was back in 1977

1970 'H' Plate Mini 1000 mk1 - sliding windows - heater never worked enough to keep me warm in winter but went everywhere in it.

Hmm, perhaps I should save this answer:

First car - MO series Oxford. However, it was given to me because the breaker wouldn't take it and I was 15 at the time, so didn't know any better!

First legal car: 1965 Wolseley Hornet. Not really the car for a hip young trendy (Nevada Beige with blue roof and pale blue seats!) and wasn't the most reliable, rust free or good looking example! It had suffered abuse from the previous owner as well as me (I think we both passed our tests in it) and, after nearly three years of me owning it, it died in 1974!

Thread on the old site..... :? There I was thinking that it was on this one. Here.
Wrong again, ah well, at least I'm good at it.

First car was probably my 1957 Minor, WPO414, but as I was 13 at the time and that's a few years ago now, it might have been the Citroen Dyane 6 that I used to travel, across fields to school at roughly the same age.
First road-legal car with me old enough to drive it on the roads was A40 Farina XJR40, or was it my mini 850?
Trouble is, in spite of what some may say, you can forget your first car, especially when you've owned far too many of the wretched things. ;)

My first car :-

YOC 891T,a beige 2-door Mk2 Escort, rotten as a pear even in 1988,I passed my test on a Thursday, went out on Saturday and bought it ,in the rain, from a dodgy roadside trader in Clapham.I'd like to say I've got wiser with age,but...

UK Mark 1 Minis ended in 1967 and sliding windows ended in 1969 with the start of the Mark 3. Unless it was a van or a pickup, which had sliders right through.

That would be a pretty unusual car if it sat around for three years before it was registered on a H.

My first car was a 1968 Mini Deluxe. Mark 1 Aussie spec with factory 998cc engine and windup windows. It was white with red trim and had NSW registration AJR413. My grandfather bought it for me in 1990 and I learnt to drive in it. I sold it mid-1991 when I "upgraded".

It's still out there on a different numberplate now.

The 998cc A series wasn't available during the time of Mk1s was it?
