Well the only dry hour or so on Thursday I re-did the mounting
of the Oil Cooler Radiator on the back of the main Radiator. I
replaced the tie-wraps with rubber insulated 'P'clips bought of
the internet as nobody locally had the size I was looking for!
Even when trying not to damage any of the fins, I still mange
to bend them!

There are no oil leaks from the connections, so that is another
thing crossed off the list!

The power steering pump pulley is somewhere in the UK with some
unknown courier for delivery! The question is when will I get it?

the answer is "just AFTER the optimum time for fitting it"

The devise that takes a feed off the coil pack supply to give the revs for the
tach was accidentally connected to the temp signal to the dash. I Knew I had
smelt the circuit board burning!

Image

I had another instrument cluster with damaged housing to take the board from
and replace the original. So I spent a little time doing that. The engine was
running yesterday without the water pump and I foolishly knocked the coolant
pressure cap on the inlet and got myself the engine bay and phones steam
cleaned!!!!!

I think that either the temperature sensor has had it, or the connection to the
ecu was damaged. As the amount of hot water and steam should have set the
ecu to engage the rad fans and it didn't!

And to make matters worse I know I have at least 3 multi meters and I can't
find one!!!!

Lost things always turn up in the very last place you look!

You're on the home straight now, Aron, so annoying though the slightly misdirected current incident may have been, it's a teething problem and you at least know now that the engine runs, which is the biggest potential pitfall behind you.

I'm looking forward to seeing you and your Neon at Ryhope. That's Sunday the 27th. The day the clocks go back.... :D

John the couriers dealing with my power steering pulley were giving me the
run around (metaphorical as impossible physically it's like walking on broken
glass most the time) They are saying fed-ex haven't passed it to them and it
could still be in the states!!

I have yet to try the old neon pump off my previous ca. If that is fecked then
it's anything up to £130 for another one. And I don't have that kind of money.
I'm not getting the same benefits I was over a year ago. I get disability but no
mobility. So I am really stretching every penny as it is.

Oh I forgot to mention there was a bit of a backfire into the air intake, which
had enough force to remove vacuum hoses and caps on the inlet manifold.
I hope the map sensor isn't fecked an'all as I haven't got a spare!

As for the clocks going back on the 27th, I did post a reminder in the off topics
section didn't I and it got deleted for some reason, or did I imagine that?

Flaming couriers man! Most of them are capable of delivering stuff in a timely fashion but every so often they mess it up.
Chin up, it'll all come together soon. 8-)

Just had an email confirming that my idle air control value ordered off ebay is
starting it's journey form china, so lets see which gets to me first the chine or
the usa

I ordered the idle air control valve as they had a cheap one listed new and I
was thinking about getting another eventually.

Note rockauto wanted about £30 in postage and £9 for it.
The ebay seller in china wanted £8.09 for it, plus £1.24 for postage

As I had to pop out to pick up the repaired wheel for the trailer, I took the
chance and purchased another multi meter for a fiver. (You watch and the
others will turn up!!! :? )

As it was a good day, and over the next few days the temperature is supposed
to drop down to 10 degrees C. I made a start on the wiring loom removing the
adapter and the voyager ecu plugs, and at the same time connecting the
intrepid ecu plugs.

This how I left the wiring at 2pm to go do some errands and get supplies. The
wiring is correctly put together temporally.

Image

I made a start on soldering each connection and using heat shrink isolation
over the joins and to isolate the odd not needed wire.

To give you an idea this half way through the soldering.

Image

I need to apply heat to about 7 of the wires tomorrow to finish off the change
over of the plugs. I stopped only because the light was going and my back and
legs already had! The worst bit is done now as it would have been worse for me
to do it in colder weather.

During the process of checking the plug wiring I noticed something that makes
me think I screwed up or something! There are 2 separate wires for fan relay
control. So I may have had it connected to the wrong one?

(pm your email address if you want to see the connecter wiring details
so somebody else can check my wiring please)

There is still a fair bit of wiring to sort out, solder and tidy up in that corner of
the engine bay! But with sitting hunched over the engine bay, I have done
myself a mischief, so tomorrow I will be taking it easy.

Please don't push yourself too hard. You are doing a good job sorting out the wires properly so keep at it. As Clint Eastwood said in one of the Dirty Harry films: "A man's gotta know his limitations."
