Took the Rover out for a spin at the weekend and passed a rather nice looking Volvo P1800, and yes we did wave at eachother

Yes it's no longer a make thing. When my parents had a couple of new VWs, in the early 1970s (They had become a bit tired of British cars, particularly a Ford Escort, going rusty before your eyes), they were still relatively uncommon and you would get a wave (The same happened a few years later with the Volvo 245).
When I first had the Midget, it was an MG thing (I don't remember it when my father had the first MGB GT V8 in 1974, so must have been a post Abingdon closure thing) and now it's a "Classic" thing

(And lets not get bogged down on that old chestnut but suffice to say I don't get waves from 1997 Vectras......not yet anyway), which in practice means anything with a suffix letter or earlier (An MG RV8 being an exception).
Not been out in the car this week, so no sightings.

lots of sports cars in saumur today inclding healey 3000 tvr mazda rx7 fb & renault 5 turbo2. there is a show on.. sadly no micra's, maybe next year??

We were out shopping the other day in the 5G Prelude when an identical one (apart from the bodykit) came the other way, with much waving and flashing of headlights. You don't see many Preludes in France...

i dont recall seeing a 5th gen but there is a 3rd gen around here.. japanese cars are not that popular with the french i know.. they do not know what pleasures they are missing
