 You gert big old perv! Get it washed this minute then go and stand on the naughty step.

I've just seen a mid '70s VW van of the loaf variety towing a trailer made from the back half of another one. This tickled me, not least because the trailer means that one fewer of the hateful, evil, foul things is still in roadworthy condition.

(Yes I have owned one. A bad example admittedly, it was hateful, evil and foul so I am completely justified in telling it like it is). ;)

Quite a week for it, as I went to Tredegar Park show on 16th. There are some photos (Some of which I took) at http://www.flickr.com/photos/leukaemia_ ... 7860352390. The weather was dry and this meant that the event took over £49000, as opposed to the £26000 last year, when it crapped down nearly all day  .

I went up to Ironbridge on Monday and spent the week there. Saw a few classics....E Type Jag, Ford Prefect outside the Black Swan pub in Ironbridge (Great pub BTW), an AJS car (Plus of course motorcycles), Sunbeams and Beans at the Black Country Museum, plus of course some classic steam engines at the Severn Valley Railway (Which I used to get from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth on the way to and from Ironbridge) and some classic aircraft at RAF Cosford museum. Met a man who was a rear gunner on a Lancaster there (Took part in the Obersalzburg raid and in food drops on Holland).

Ironbridge, now there's a place I haven't been since, well, late June as it happens. A lovely spot even though I floated most of the way across from my hotel on the other side of Telford. Ah, the joys of a rear-engined car in deep surface water:

And to justify my visit to this thread this Morning; I have seen three interesting old cars today, two of which were P6s, the other a Porsche 912 in the brightest shade of green in the whole world bar none. I assume it was a 912 and not a 911 as the latter would have pulled away from my 799cc Diesel going up a 1 in 4, rather than be overtaken by it. Oh how we laughed.

(And it said 912 on the deck lid, so....)

Alas no, my schedule was really far too tight for the trip to the gorge and I'd have struggled to fit in any other places and events of interest. There's always next year though, and if I go earlier I'll catch the show, which happened a fortnight before I was in Shropshire this year.

Ay up!

There I was, staggering out after a day's teaching and guess what I saw?

A gorgeous 1966 (same year as me!) Triumph Vitesse convertible. :D

Took a trip to the West Somerset Railway (http://www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk/) and apart from their locos, I saw an old single decker bus (I would have said it was very dearly 1950s or before - engine was to the left of the driver) between Taunton and Bishops Lydeard; I think it was a Bristol. One of the visitors to the railway drove off in a nice looking red MGB (Pity it was crapping down and he had the hood up). As usual, the food and drink (I didn't take the car) at http://www.whitehorsestogumber.co.uk/ was excellent :D .

Mostly banger raced, Rich. They were really good for that purpose because the torsion bar front suspension (and before anyone says it yes, I know that the American ones had struts instead) meant that there were no loads borne by the front inner wings so they could be shunted to the bulkhead and still drive in a straight line.

A mate of mine drove his into the side of a car that pulled out from a side road, he drove it with the front panel a good 18" closer to the screen for about a month until the MOT expired, then weighed it in. The only modification required was moving the battery to the passenger footwell as the tray it was meant to sit on wasn't there any more.
