The transmission mount





I didn't fit a spacer for the bolts on the bottom set that bolt into the gearbox!
After bolting it on and I realised this mistake, I have cut tube for spacers to stop
the plate deforming.

Considering the position of where the ancillaries have to go, it's the serpentine belt
option, got a new one on ebay for £7.00 inc tax and postage.
I have derided to to just buy an intake manifold rather than have one made, alot less
hassle if it fitts under the bonnet/hood, and it is one that Jimbo suggested.

Hey Mitsuru, there's some great work and a lot of careful thinking going into this job. I'll admit that at first, I wondered whether a relatively modern car would be at all interesting to read about, but this thread is really holding my attention since it shows not only the execution of this task, but also the thought that's going into it. The little details such as the importance of those spacer tubes to prevent the plates deforming, the little cut here and the bit of fabrication there, all good stuff. Nice one, I'm enjoying this.

My health is my biggest problem!!
I have dropped out of University due to ill health and that course isn't the same,
so!! I have used this project to keep the little gray cells from turning into mush!
As I will go down the serpentine belt route, I will post a sketch of possible layout,
the minute I've done it(just using printout from pdf t o get everything in sketch
about the same scale.

I was wondering how I was going to get around the thermostat,
and filler neck problem with the v6 installation.
A thread on filler neck for a 2.4L engine swap into neon provided
the answer, a filler neck from a PT Cruiser.



£14 inc postage and packing, so saves me and dad making one from
scratch and making a mess of it, especially when an off the shelf
option is readily available.

The diagram below is an idea of what goes where on the serpentine belt.



A start was made on the ancillaries, I put the spring loaded roller bracket,
on the engine prior to cutting it so the alternator can be fitted.





Thought it might to make a little bracket to hold the tensioner in place after I
chop the bottom off the old bracket.



Ok I also put the altenator on to get an idea on what to make and where to
move what!



What you can't see in the picture is there is a bolt hole jutting out from the
engine block making so the alternator unable to get any closer to the block.
The alternator will need to be moved up a little more so the driveshaft is out
of the way, at the same time, I am unhappy with the spring tensioner.

I don't want to whip out the grinder and cut that lug/bolt hole off yet incase I
need it for the alternator. But I feel that the tensioner could be rotated anti
clockwise by upto 60 degrees, also removing that bolt hole.
(I have to think about avoiding the Break Master Cylinder too)

I will have to make an adapter plate for the coolant filler neck,
this is due to the hole for the thermostat being smaller on the
block. (thermostat on v6 is smaller than a neon or pt cruiser)

The filler neck is just placed wher it will go.





I removed the V-belt pulley off a neon power steering pump I have
spare. As the pulley used on the old engines power steering pump
had a bigger shaft, which means it is only placed with the neons
shaft in place to size up in the pictures below.

This is how it would fit on the old pump with a bolt holding it in place.






This time i put it on the other way so the puley is closer to the pump.





The bracket that holds the power steering pump will be changed or modified.
As you can see how much of the shaft the pulley has to hold onto, so I
think It would be best to mount the pulley reversed to what it would normally
be fitted. Either that or fit a pulley off say an alternator.

What do you guys think?

Ok today the Voyager belt arrived so did the pulley.
The idler pulley I bought is not mopar but for AUDI A4, A6, & A8.
Yes they use the same width and ribbed v-belt, but different
lengths so more options for parts.

But first lets get the power steering pump bracket sorted out!



I was thinking Just one bit of sheet steel wit the relivant holes,
and notches cut out. But that ment the pump has too far back.
It is easier to put washers in-between the bracket and the pump
to move it back if necessary for lining up the belt.



There is a fixing plate which if necessary could be made to rotate
it to adjust the belt a little more if needed, two small bolts holding
it in place at the moment. A spacer plate then the front pump
fixing/holding plate. I used the old bracket as a template to make it
easier for that one.





Iplaced the pulley on the shaft of the pump and put the belt on to
see what kind of adjustments need to be made.
Err how is the belt staying on you ask?



The alternator is not going to stay like that. And it's next on my to
do list. I have to make templates for it and the spring loaded
pensioner. I will be getting a new belt too as the voyagers is way to
big for my set up, but I will measure up after the brackets have
been finished.
