Come off the rails had it

This reminded me of the bit in the Titfield Thunderbolt ,where Hugh Griffith and Stanley Holloway pinch a loco but they don't line the turntable up right and end up on the road. When they get arrested, the charges are amusing; things like not keeping a line of traffic, emitting sparks on the highway, I think being drunk was another.
I'm in the process of reading the Haynes Manual for the A1 at the moment. It's very interesting (I haven't seen it but I have spoken to someone who has driven it....he was showing me how to drive and 060 Pannier). I'm off to the Glos & Warwickshire on Wednesday (It passes within view of Prescott), where City of Truro is currently based.

Still a brace of late Sierra doing minicab service down in Ashington, one is the metallic blue "Azure" edition, the other a red one. Their owner took them out of winter service in about 2009 but come this time, they're out & at it again until the end of October.
Right enough becoming a little uncommon now though, and there are only the two out here; a white 1.8
(Pinto, not CVH, I gave him a jump start from the VW and had a look under the Sierra's bonnet then) hatch on an E plate and a very tidy Cosworth Sapphire that is in year round use belongs to the teacher at the village primary. Beats the usual primary teacher's choices of 2CV or Beetle.

Many Sierras are of an age where they are now classic, though I suspect there won't be many seen at events, apart from Cosworths and maybe XR4 (You see far more Continas). I don't know when I last saw one.
However, for myself, I have just seen a green Frogeye Sprite (With a white hardtop) drive past the shop and as I was typing, it went back the other way (Suspect it's from the local garage, who always have a classic or two there).

Well.... today I went over from Hexham to Penrith, Via Hartside [A686]
Near the Hartside Cafe... I was passed by around half a dozen of these, going the other way.... everyone wearing Flying Helmets c/w Goggles

NOTE... I seem to remember these plates stlye & they were all LHD.
5mins later...
One of these came 'steaming up the hill', towards Hartside

... Silver - on old, period black&silver plates
BUT LHD too
Lovely day for it
