I've never owned either but worked on both in the 60's in a busy garage. Always liked the Herald and Vitesse's. The Moggy was easy to work on and drove well. The Herald handled well but not as predictable as the Moggy. I'd buy a herald and bin the body and go for a kit car conversion. I've seen a Vitesse with a 2.5 PI engine. Went very well but the diff etc was always getting 'distressed.'

The original Herald chassis had substantial modifications done at the time when the Vitesse was developed so there are distinct Mk1 and Mk2 chassis. Changeover for Heralds was at some point in '62 so very early 1200 Heralds were on a Mk1 chassis though most were Mk2s.
